I am still meeting once a month with a few of the young girls in my neighborhood. They are helping me with various tasks and learning skills to become a quilter. This week, we moved on to sewing.
Remember the 4.5" squares I cut out of my scrap bins? They are going to turn them into quilts for Many Hands and Many Hearts.
Here are their first attempts. I think they did amazing. After sewing their first column and seeing how squares didn't align well, they took a bit more care and were so proud of their next attempts. Some even took the time to take out their previous seam.
Not bad for girls that have never ran a sewing machine before!
They only spend a few hours once a month with me. They were eager to pull the squares for their next visit. I love to see them picking through the squares to find just the right print for their vision.
It's fun to think they might be the next generation of quilters.

Adorable blocks!!! Sweet story!
Sounds like these girls are hooked, lol. They sure did very well sewing their first blocks. ;^)
The girls' blocks look great! That's a really good way to teach them a new skill and get them interested in sewing. You'll be a positive influence on their lives, too! Have a wonderful Sunday, Cyndy!
Your students are doing so well! It's good to see young people interested in quilting. And that's thanks to your efforts!
Those girls are doing amazing work on their blocks. Their results look like they have been sewing for years! Thank you for taking them under your wings and showing them that they too can quilt!
They did great and I love that they have already selected the squares they want to sew together into their next block!
Congratulations to you for fostering an interest in quilting with a group of younger girls. Even if they don't become quilters, the sewing skills they have learned will come in handy in the future. And congratulations to the girls for persevering and contributing to Many Hands and Many Hearts.
Pat
