Pillow Talk

I have been busy preparing for an upcoming Improv Class in March.  I always like to share lots of ways to use a technique so I have been making a few more class samples.

I thought I would make a fun 16" pillow.  This is a great option to learn the technique but now commit to a whole quilt.

This class will also be provided with a pattern sheet for my Improv Garden quilt (that you partially see in the background).  I also hope to finish a Night Sky wall hanging soon.  It is just waiting for me to find time to quilt it!

And if anyone is interested, I usually finish my pillows with a simple envelope back.  They are easy to make and easy to swap out so you can change your pillow tops often.

I really enjoyed making this pillow.  It feels good to stretch my mind around a new technique and step out of simple piecing sometimes.

Oh Scrap! : Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2020

Finally!  The Rainbow Scrap Challenge for 2020 is here!  I always struggle the last two months of every year not having RSC blocks to work on.  

It feels good to know I will have a scrap routine again.

 The first blocks I tackled this month are my rail fence variation.  I don't have a lot of bright green scraps so I tried to just go with what I had.

Here they are with the red test blocks I made.  I think this quilt is going to be loads of fun to see bloom with new colors every month.

Most of my sewing time has been spent working on this new scrap project.  Remember my Improv Garden quilt?  This is the same technique but I am creating a nighttime sky.

Only a few more blocks to go!

Happy 2020 and a Few Last Finishes for 2019

Happy 2020 Everyone!

After taking a few weeks away from the longarm portion of my business, I am feeling much more refreshed.  I used the time to get my household organized, update all my business spreadsheets and plan on some goals for the new year.

I feel like I have a pretty good plan!

I did want to go back and share some of the final gift items I made.  Potholders are always a popular and well received gift.  I did try some round ones this year.  Even though I had cut my binding on the bias, the first one I sewed looked more like one of my bowl cozies!  It took me a bit to not stretch the binding as I sewed it on.  They were a lot harder than they looked.

I do have an old tutorial on how I quilt my potholders.  

I don't like to quilt the Insulbrite because I think they then allow steam through.

I also made a bunch of napkin sets from fabric in my stash.

I make them the same way I make my tablecloths.  I posted a tutorial here.

I am so glad I won't have to be making any more gifts.  They are not my favorite thing to sew.  I am looking forward to getting out my bins of colorful scraps and start sewing.
