I know, I know. I said recently that I was going to really try to get a few things done around here. I even made a list of goals to have done by the end of September. But what do I do? I start playing in the scrap bin and can't resist starting a few more quilts.
I have been setting aside my white, gray, lime green and black scraps for quite some time. The bin they were going into finally over flowed so I thought I had better start cutting to see what I had. I spent a couple nights cutting them into 2 1/2" squares and decided to add a bit of turquoise to the mix.
As usual, I have no clear direction on this so we shall see what I end up with! So far, I have just randomly started chain piecing them together....
I have also been sewing together some red string blocks. With so many of my last projects having red in them, I have quite a few scraps that need to find a home.
These are 10 1/2" blocks so they go nice and quickly!
I was also sidetracked by some scrap triangles a friend gave me. Not sure how I will use them but they are all sewn and trimmed and waiting for the perfect project.
How come your friend's fabric is so much more fun than your own?!
I also spent last night playing with various layouts on this big stack of triangles that were also "gifted" to me. I might just try to bury these under some fabric in my sewing room so I quit spending time on them.
Think that will work?
Yay!
I am pleased to say I quilted and bound this scrappy lap quilt so this week wasn't all about starts. Unfortunately this quilt wasn't one of my FAL goals but I am still happy to have it done and listed in my Etsy shop!
Well, it's a new week now and maybe this will be the week I zero in on some more finishes.
I really do have a number of fun WIPs to choose from so it shouldn't be that hard!

In answer to your question: your friends' scraps are so much more fun because they're new! I love getting "new" fabric scraps....don't we all?
Interesting post and I love that finished quilt!
I'd say you are quite accomplished! That takes a lot of time to organize, cut, sort, mix . . . and envision what to do with all those stray scraps. You have half the work done already! And friends' scraps must be like the grass that is greener on the other side of the fence!
All these projects look wonderful they are very motivating :)
I had to laugh with this post, you sound quite like me, getting side tracked, burying stuff, and especially why the friend's fabric is so much more exciting!! I love when someone else picks out fabric for me. In fact, any time there's a giveaway that says tell us what you like at such and such, I would much rather say, if I win (which I NEVER have...), oh please just pick for me!
love your finished quilt! It's really beautiful! I have such a hard time starting an undetermined project with random scraps. I don't tend to think that way, so I'm envious of anyone who can play around and sew without a clear plan in mind (and make it look good to boot!)

It is really hard to stick to one project to the end and not start another ... I love the quilt you finished up, the colours are fantastic. I just finished a quilt too - feels so good to have a finish - hooray for us - lol!
What a great looking quilt.
I am interested in those triangle pieces. They look very geometrically pleasing to the eye:)
I like your style, Cynthia! And as your newest follower, I am looking forward to seeing what becomes of your 2" finished square scrappy quilt. Congrats on the finish of the red/white/blue scrappy quilt!

just "lol" at your starting a bunch of new stuff, I think we can all relate! lol. I love the little squares idea from scraps... I have quite a few as well and have been pondering doing something with them lately.
I am stopping by from the WIP hop, my post is here if you have time to stop by :) http://domesticdeficitdisorder.blogspot.com/2013/07/wip-july-17th-edition.html
I really like your scrappy lap quilt!
Sounds like you had a very busy week with lots of pretty projects in the making. I like lime green and black scraps. I wonder what they will become?
Your finished quilt is really lovely. I like it a lot.
You had me at "scrappy". Love love love the scrappy lap quilt. The colours are so vibrant and fun.
Your lap quilt is so cute!
Oh I just love those blues and reds!
Yes I understand that feeling, starting a quilt is the easy way to get it out of your head, I am starting lots of things at the moment but finishing very few!
