Moving forward and Looking ahead

Yes...I am still working on this *@^# scrappy quilt.  Don't get me wrong, I really like how it is turning out.  But it has grown into a much larger quilt than I had originally planned.  Plus, there is far too much cutting and scrap sorting on this one!  Truthfully, I am extremely bored with it....however, I am determined to keep moving forward.

I have finally reached the point where I need to decide the block layout so I thought I would get your input.

I was originally going to set the blocks on point.  I like how this looks but I am struggling with how to treat the inset triangles.

(We will call this option #1)

But today I thought it might look interesting to stagger the blocks.
(option #2)

Or I can set the blocks to create a pinwheel effect with the geese.  I have made something like this in the past and liked the finished effect. (option #3)

(sorry about the blurry picture)

What do you think....Do you have a favorite?

I am really motivated to get this off my design wall as I found out last week that I won some of Amy Smart's (Diary of a Quilter) patterns!  Yay!!  As you know, I took part in the100 Quilts for Kids drive this year and I won the below suite of patterns!  I love Amy's patterns due to their scrappiness and have decided to make each one completely out of my scraps/stash.
(backs and all)

So feel free to also weigh in on which one you would like to see me work on first.  You can bet I will be starting on one of these as soon as the scrappy geese blocks are all sewn together!

...and if you would like a copy of these patterns yourself, you can click on each picture and it will take you to Amy's pattern site.  I have already looked at the patterns and they are really well written.
I know I can't wait to get started.

I think this project is great and really like option #2 best.

So excited that you won such great Amy Smart patterns! I'd love to see "Double Crossed" done first.

Have fun with your projects :)

Flying geese always look so good when done scrappy. I like the offset look, but putting them on point is really unique compared to what a lot of quilters are doing lately.

Hi Cynthia, I like the more random look of the second one. I agree, anything short of scrappy would not look right for those setting triangles in the first one, but I like the on point. . . I'm sure you'll find the right solution. It looks really striking, though. Keep going.

I like the first one. I like that it looks like it's wandering.

I like the pinwheel approach of #3. :-)

I really like option one. It really adds to the design of the blocks.

I think I like option two the best, but the other two look great too. It will be a really lovely quilt.

I like both one and two. It's going to be beautiful with the way you've put the colors together.

Hi! Your blocks are fantastic and colours so beautiful! I love the 1st one! Churn dash is in my list. Sunny wishes from Greece! Teje

I love the block on point in option #1. I think you could do white setting triangles and give the eyes somewhere to rest with all of the bright colors in the scrappy blocks.

This is a really fun quilt- it looks neat arranged almost all the ways, but my favorite is when they are on point.

I like option 2! I think if you're tired of the project you should choose an easy option. And I vote for the churn dash. :)

They look terrific. I love the staggered rows. I won some patterns too but from Lee at Freshly Pieced. Can't wait to find some time for those.

I like these blocks you are working on! Looks pretty simple, but is there a block pattern? I am trying to do more scrappy stuff too, as I love it the most of all quilting I think! Thanks for sharing!

I like #2. And I have been thinking of making a churn dash quilt lately, so that pattern would be my choice, followed by the Double Crossed. I know - make two!

All all of Amy Smart's patterns are wonderful but I have to say #4 is my favorite because I made something very similar to it in blues and greens. #2 and # 3 are really nice too! As for your flying geese blocks I like the pin wheel effect.

I like #3 but then I like swirly things!

Double Crossed! :)

Thanks Nancy - The block is pretty simple. Squares are 2.5". Sew 3 columns of 5 (15 patch). The geese are a 2.5 x 4.5" rectangle with a 2.5" square sewn diagonally across the top corners. Make 5 of them, piece in a column then sew to one side of the 15 patch.

I sew lots of scrappy stuff so I hope you are following along. (FYI - you might want to check to see if you are a no reply blogger.)
