A Happy Accident

After seeing Barb's (Mountain Quiltworks) Charm Pack Cherry quilts, I knew I wanted to make one for myself with the two charm packs I had squirreled away of the 2Twenty Thr3e line by Moda.  These had been on the shelf for over a year so I was ready to get them sewn into a quilt.

When I told Barb I was making the quilt, her comment to me was "It's super easy!".  And it is...but super easy doesn't mean I can't somehow get the blocks sewn wrong differently.  Never liking to get out my seam ripper unless I absolutely have to, I laid out the blocks and saw they would still go together.  Perfect!  Works for me!!

I actually really like how the piecing turned out (probably more than the original layout).  If you like the look too, I think I somehow just sewed all the blocks the same (rather than half one way and half another).  Each sized piece lined up in columns so I just added a quilted squiggly line to match the piecing.  For a background fabric, I used Kona Ash Gray.

I used a piece out of my stash I had recently bought on sale for the backing.  In fact, a friend showed up to "steal" this piece from me minutes after I finished quilting it.  She was with me when I bought it and was wanting to use it to back a quilt she had just finished.  Too Late!! Guess we are just going to have to go shopping now!

The Charm Pack Cherry Quilt is free pattern from the Fat Quarter Shop. It was super easy and went together in an evening.  I am all out of charm squares or I might consider making another!

I have that pattern! It came in with my last order from Fat Quarter Shop! I was thinking the pattern could work with scraps too... I really like how your "mistake" turned out. Looks awesome. I finished the Christmas scrap quilt, and I'm really happy with it. :-)

Great quilt, I would have left it too! I don't rip unless I have to either!

Isn't it interesting how a fabric can sit in your stash for a while and then you can come up with multiple ways to use it at once! Lovely finish!

I really like the way it turned out - both the design and fabric selection.

I made a Charm Pack Cherry quilt, also, but I couldn't figure out how your layout was different until I went back and looked at mine. I do like your layout better! Either way, though, I enjoyed the quilt process and how it turned out!

That is a happy accident. My boys and I like your layout better. (They like things symmetrical).

That's a very pretty quilt and the simple design shows off the fabrics. Often simple is best :)

Pretty quilt: the gray shows the prints off beautifully. The quilting is just right for this design.

Your version looks awesome!!! I love it!

I really like your version.......seems a bit less chaotic (but it may be the other's color choices?) and am definitely getting this pattern!!!

I have been wanting to make that pattern form the Fat Quarter Shop for quite a while now. Even bought the storybook line charm packs to do it. Yours looks great and I like the layout. I am curious now and will have to study the original to see what is different and whether I want to do it your way instead. I do love you color selection and the squiggly quilting pattern. I am often at a loss as to how to quilt my quilts so thanks for your idea.

Hah! Too funny about your stitching it up 'differently', but it totally works! That's what I love about quilting - you can add your own flare. That's such a coincidence about your friend wanting to nab the backing fabric just then. Yep - time to help her go shopping!

I actually like this layout better, too, Cynthia. And love the fabric - I've been hoarding the camera prints : )
