Oh Scrap! : Katy Quilts

One of the blogs I follow closely is Katy Quilts.  Katy is a prolific quilter, has an interest in all genres of fabrics, collects antique sewing items, and is a longarm quilter!  She is always sharing beautiful quilts and many of them are made with scraps.  I always enjoy seeing what she is up to!

One of the things that caught my eye early is that Katy is always sharing all these stacks of beautifully cut fabric that she is getting ready to sew up into a quilt.  I soon realized that she was using a die cutter for her fabric cutting and I was immediately intrigued.  I stalked watched her on Instagram and her blog to learn more about it.

I finally just got up the courage and reached out to Katy and asked her what she used and if she felt it was useful in scrap quilting.  After reading her wonderful and informative response, I knew I wanted her to share how she uses her Accuquilt for scrap management.  And she agreed!

So hop over to her blog post and read how she uses her Accuquilt Studio to quickly cut her scraps into useable sizes.  She even shares a brilliant idea for sewing up those scraps and then cutting them!

As I said in an earlier post, I am saving my pennies for a die cutting system.  I am not sure if I want the Studio or the Go! Big Electric model.  If you have any information to share, I would love to hear about it!

I have even been downloading some of the free patterns already so I can start playing right away!

Thanks so much Katy for sharing!!

I bought the studio before the smaller machines were available. I love being able to cut out hundreds of squares and strips in just minutes.
You do need to have a designated place to keep The studio as it does not fold up. With the studio you do not need to cut your fabric into smaller pieces. Good luck with your decision.

I'm like you. I'm saving for a cutter machine. I'm not a scrap quilter, mainly due to the fact I'm a control freak but another reason is the thought of cutting all those bits of fabric into useable pieces. Who knows, with a cutter I may change

SInce we emailed I too am saving my pennies for this. There's also the Sizzez system that I've seen on Victoria WOlfe's blog. I'm also going to see what JoAnnes carries as I always have coupons for there!

I LOVE my Go cutter! I bit the bullet last summer. I am still working on my scraps and cutting them down. I can't believe I can cut out a quilt in minutes instead of hours. at first I thought I might have made a mistake. I thought I should have bought the sizzix. their dies, I believe are cheaper. but I think long and hard before I buy a die. I try to really to get ones that I will use all the time. also, I look everywhere for the best price. I also ask for dies for christmas, birthdays, etc.

I think it is the best investment I have ever made.

it would be wonderful to get the electric one. but that is a BIG expense. so not for a while. BTW, you can't use your Joann's coupons on the Go cutter or dies. it says on the coupon. BUT watch the sales. then run to the store!!!! good luck..

I do not have one of these fantastic cutters. This does remind me of the letter and shape cutting I used to do at the elementary school when I volunteered (about a zillion years ago)
I am excited for you. I really like all of the link ups shared too

I have the go cutter and the baby go (which I got first). I follow a blogger named Gene Black and he to uses the cutter to cut scraps into usable shapes. I have started cutting but not sewing back together.
