A Quick Baby Quilt from Leftover Blocks

My quilty friends are so good to me.  A few of them dislike the storage and messiness of scraps so they tend to surprise me with bags of goodness when they drop off a quilt to be quilted.  In one of those bags, I discovered a stack of cute little orphan blocks.

Some were sewn into strips but there were a total of twenty blocks!  When I questioned my friend if she included them in error, she said they were just leftover from a project and rather than toss them, she threw them in the scrap bin.  They were now mine to use!

I came across the blocks again when I was recently cleaning my sewingroom and decided just to get them sewn up into a sweet little baby quilt.

The curved blocks were pieced so beautifully, sewing up the quilt top was a breeze!  I loaded it up on my longarm as soon as it was finished and quilted it with swirls and feathers.

I even did some fabric trading and located a piece from the same line for the backing.

It wasn't quite big enough but there is usually a solid in my stash that can be used to stretch it out to work - in this case, it was a pretty orchid purple.  I went ahead and used the same color for the binding to tie it all together.

I am so glad these blocks did not get tossed or stuffed in a bag forgotten.  They now have a new life as a sweet little quilt that is ready to be loved!

2015 FAL at On the Windy Side

It looks like I put finishing this quilt on my third quarter Finish Along goals with On the Windy Side.  Woo Hoo!  One down and three more to go!

Quilting is more fun than Housework

If you have uninspiring blocks or projects you want to pass on and have someone else finish, I will be hosting an event in September you might be interested in.

Your friend has the right attitude: if you won't use it, pass it on to somebody who will!

What a beautiful gift! It is so great that the donor gave the blocks to you, who knew how precious they are and how simple it was to make a lovely baby quilt. That is the hope we all have, that the work put into our projects will be valued and not tossed aside.

I am totally in love with "low volume" fabrics and this one is a winner!! Your choice of final stitching, backing and binding finished it wonderfully.

That is beautiful! I love the purple and am so glad you made a treasure out of someone's trash. That was so sweet of her to pass them along to someone she knew would not let them go to waste.

I love these blocks. Definitely have them on my list to try, as I have never done any curved piecing! It's so great that you can take these orphan blocks and see their potential!
