100 Quilts for Kids Finish

Boy, am I on a roll!  I have another finished scrap quilt to check off the list this week.

This year, for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge block with So Scrappy, I decided to make an easy block.  I used 2.5" scrap squares and made a simple 9-patch block.

I made the blocks in a rainbow of colors and used various black and white prints for the backgrounds (many of which came from my scrap bin).

I decided it looked best without a border.  I love that it is so happy and colorful!

For the backing, I found the perfect bright colored dot fabric I picked up on sale a few moons ago.  I even used up some bright colored scraps for the binding.

The quilting was a lot of fun.  I loaded the quilt sideways on my longarm and did a continuous swirl across the black and white squares and a line design (it always makes me think of as a frequency signal) across the 9 patches. It went really quickly just working back and forth across the quilt.

I have already started blocks for another quilt just like this one.  I love how this one turned out!

Update:  This quilt design is now part of my Scrap Mixology series.  You can find out more about the available modules here.

This will be my third quilt being linked up with Quilts in the Queue for the 100 Quilts for Kids event.  (My goal is six this year.)  A local organization called Bags of Love is getting a big stack of quilts from me this year!

There is still time for you to make a quilt for the event.  Need ideas?  There are lots in the Scrap-A-Palooza Quilt Gallery.  Just grab your scraps and pick a project.  They are all fast and easy!

Cyndy, I really love this quilt! The colored nine patches set against the black and white background look so great! The quilting you did is perfect and fun! Pinned it! :)

Love how this turned out! I agree with Lara, that the background color really sets off the nine patch and makes for a dramatic presentation!

I love this quilt and the pattern. Our volunteer group just put together a 9-patch where the squares were 3" finished for a 9" block and used latticing. I really like the corners in various greys and blacks. Your quilting is wonderful. Thank you for the ideas.

Love it and it certainly is perfect without the border. After a weekend of guests, I'll be itching to join you in scrappy heaven next week. ;)

I've been admiring those blocks since you first started sharing them. You've definitely talked me into adding this one to my list.
Isn't it amazing how colorful this quilt is, when you consider that it's mostly black and white? 8)

What a beautiful quilt! No. It doesn't need a border.

I have officially started my own version. It uses 2 inch rainbow squares, but otherwise, it will look just like yours! Thanks for the inspiration.
