October Goal - A Lovely Year of Finishes

I'm not sure why it hasn't dawned on me before, but this morning I realized there is only a few more months left in this year and I still have a lot more I want to accomplish.

One of my goals for the year was to work my WIPs down to under 20. Right now I am at 23 so I need to be all about finishing things up!

I grabbed my second batch of RSC15 blocks and laid them out on my design wall. This time around, I just used red, orange, pink, yellow and brown for my blocks.  (The last one I made was a lot more colorful.)

To my surprise, I have just enough to make a quilt.  Time to sew these up into another quilt.

A Lovely Year of Finishes

To keep me focused, I thought I would make finishing this quilt my October goal for  A Lovely Year of Finishes with Sew BitterSweet Designs.  I didn't do so well last month so hopefully in October I am a bit more successful.

Now all I have to do is keep myself from starting something new!

Oh Scrap! : Brown

When I saw that the color brown was chosen for So Scrappy's Rainbow Scrap Challenge for the month of October, my initial reaction was "I'm not putting brown in my quilt!"  But after thinking about it for a few days, I decided to open my mind a bit and see what happens.  I know it would certainly be nice to use up some of my brown scraps!

Even though I finished up one quilt using this block, I have been sewing more and have just about enough for a second quilt.  I picked out some warm browns and made a few to put in the quilt.  I don't think they are going to look too bad either!

I have been using and loving my AccuQuilt Studio 2 Fabric Cutter - especially the 2 1/2" square die.  I can just pile on scrappy chunks and with a few cranks on the machine, I can have a big stack of perfect squares.  It worked great for this block.

One thing I did do on this die was to mark some lines where the blades are to help guide me where to lay the fabric.  I used a silver gel pen and it worked beautifully.  I find I don't have as many miscuts now due to poor fabric alignment.

What about you - Have you been sewing with scraps this week?

100 Quilts for Kids Finish

Boy, am I on a roll!  I have another finished scrap quilt to check off the list this week.

This year, for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge block with So Scrappy, I decided to make an easy block.  I used 2.5" scrap squares and made a simple 9-patch block.

I made the blocks in a rainbow of colors and used various black and white prints for the backgrounds (many of which came from my scrap bin).

I decided it looked best without a border.  I love that it is so happy and colorful!

For the backing, I found the perfect bright colored dot fabric I picked up on sale a few moons ago.  I even used up some bright colored scraps for the binding.

The quilting was a lot of fun.  I loaded the quilt sideways on my longarm and did a continuous swirl across the black and white squares and a line design (it always makes me think of as a frequency signal) across the 9 patches. It went really quickly just working back and forth across the quilt.

I have already started blocks for another quilt just like this one.  I love how this one turned out!

Update:  This quilt design is now part of my Scrap Mixology series.  You can find out more about the available modules here.

This will be my third quilt being linked up with Quilts in the Queue for the 100 Quilts for Kids event.  (My goal is six this year.)  A local organization called Bags of Love is getting a big stack of quilts from me this year!

There is still time for you to make a quilt for the event.  Need ideas?  There are lots in the Scrap-A-Palooza Quilt Gallery.  Just grab your scraps and pick a project.  They are all fast and easy!

Oh Scrap! : RSC15 Orange

The month of August was certainly all about sewing scraps! So it is looking like September will be about getting all those quilts finished.

Various bits of fabric have been flying at my house and I should have quite a few more scrappy finishes to share soon.

Last month, I decided to go ahead and sew up my RSC15 blocks into a charity quilt.  This week it found its way onto my longarm and was quilted.  Boy, do I love this little quilt!

I was pleased to see that Angela at SoScrappy chose orange blocks for the month of September.  It is one of my favorite colors and, because I wanted some orange in my quilt, I had sewn these four blocks in August.

My initial plan was to add a pieced border on my quilt so I have been sewing up these colorful little 9 patches.  But when it came time to add the border, I decided I liked the quilt best without them.  So now I just might turn these into more blocks and make a second quilt.
I will share pictures soon of the finished quilt.  I just have to finish up the binding!

Oh Scrap! : RSC15 Gray

Yesterday was SO productive!  I had a wonderful day sewing with friends after which I came home and spent many more hours in my sewingroom working on a number of fun projects.  Progress was made on 6 different quilts!  One of the small projects I finished up were my August blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge with SoScrappy.  This month's color is Indigo but we could substitute black or gray.  As I used Indigo in my blue blocks, I decided to add a few blocks of gray in my quilt.

My pile of blocks is getting pretty big so I have decided to go ahead and sew up a quilt top for charity.  My plan is to use more scraps for a colorful pieced outer border so I am working on that now.

Don't forget that there is a great event going on right now over at Quilts in the Queue.  I have been participating in 100 Quilts for Kids for a couple of years now.  You have until the end of September to link up your entries.  This is a great opportunity to sew up those scraps, bring comfort to a child and maybe win a great prize!

Oh Scrap! : RSC15 Red

Just stopping in quickly this morning to set up the Oh Scrap! link. I am hoping to get my Scrap Vortex quilt finished up this week so I am off to start quilting that today.

I did get my red RSC15 blocks sewn up for July.
I was hoping for another hot color and I got my wish!
