Some Tired Old Scraps!

Right after I received my AccuQuilt Studio Cutter, I decided it was time to clean out a few of my scrap bins.  I was finding I was getting really tired of looking at some of these fabrics having used them in so many quilts over the years.

I loved how quickly and accurately I was able to cut my scraps up into squares - something I was spending a lot of hours doing in the past.

I decided to play with hot and cold colors.  I cut my blues into 2.5" squares and my hot colors into 4.5" squares.  The block was a simple one and could be sewn up as a leader/ender project.

Somewhere along the way, I really fell out of love with this quilt.  But once I got to quilting it, it started coming together for me.

I decided to crosshatch quilt in the blue and create some squared spirals in the bigger squares.

And I love the red backing piece I was able to find in my stash.

Not a bad quilt from a bunch of tired old scraps!

Fun! I get a feeling of paths through a flower garden from it.
Don't you just love what scraps can turn into?

I love my accuquilt for this very reason -- your quilt is awesome and it's new love for fabric that could have been easily overlooked. I've got a bin of 5 inch charms and love gifting them to people as part of bee swaps if i know they are working on projects needing certain colors or my hexi loving friends.

Love how it turned out. You are a great inspiration for scrap busting. Love the square spiral quilting you used and it does bring the quilt to life.

I think we all know that 'fell out of love' feeling, but it really is a vibrant quilt. Love your color and design sense. You spark new ideas for me all the time.

You're right, not bad at all. I would rather say bright and happy.

It is amazing how you lose the original block when the quilt is sewn together, and the hot colors really stand out! I love this one! Beautiful finish!

Congrats to you for not just leaving it as a UFO when you stopped loving it, but pushing on to completion. Great job :)

I love what Gayle said up there about it looking like paths among flowers. I agree - this is a lovely quilt and I really like the hot/cold idea. I think I might have to try something like this with my scraps. Thank you for the inspiration!

this a very great result from "tired old scraps" I know the not-loving-it feeling and I am so glad you moved past it to finish. 👍

Great finish! I especially like the squared spirals (enough that I'm going to have to try that motif). You had a smart idea of cutting the hots and cools into different sizes...much easier to spread them across the quilt, I'm sure.

Love this! The red back is perfect. I'm bookmarking to use as a great quilting idea - love the cross-hatch and squared spirals.

Ooh, I love that the quilt has a very different look than the separate blocks. Very cool! What a great idea for scraps!

I got a Go cutter for Xmas and like you I am cutting scraps - a lot of work left to do but I plan on trying to cut a couple days a week.

Oh dear. I think another project has just been added to my bucket list. What do you think of white with black prints for the large squares and miscellaneous scraps for the little ones?

Cyndy,I was so delighted with this quilt that I almost went into shock when you said that somewhere along the way you fell out of love with it. I'm glad you are back to liking it again. It's so fun and wonderful! Especially perfect with the quilting you did!
