Oh Scrap! : Happy 2017!

Here we are, the first day of a brand new year!

I hope it is a great scrappy year for us all.

And just how did I ring in the New Year?
Knee deep in purple scraps!

As soon as Angela announced the color for January, I pulled my purple bin and started sorting.  I am pleased this is this month's color - my bin is stuffed full!

Right away I started sewing all the strings into these scrappy  10" blocks.  Not sure how many I will make - I am just going to keep sewing until I run out of strips.

So far, it looks like it is going to be a great year!

*************************************

I look forward to seeing how you are using your scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:
  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!
Quilting is more fun than Housework

So if you love scrappy projects, feel free to grab my button for your sidebar or posts and get ready to share all your wonderful projects from scraps.  And if you have a great idea for using scraps and would like to be featured, feel free to contact me!

I'm joining in this year. I need to finish up a small project before I can start my blocks but I did pull the purples. I need to cut more purple strips so I have a better variety of purples. Happy sewing! villacrestfarm@gmail.com

I am sick of my old stash, so am being inspired by you to do string blocks for the RSC to use up my old stash!

I am wondering just how many blocks you ended up with last night! It looked like you were going full steam! Here's to another year full of progress, creativity and perhaps a little selfish sewing for you! Happy New Year! I agree with Sandra...I'm sick of my stash too!

You definitely got a good jump on this month's RSC color!

So, how does this scrap thing that you're doing work? Are you cutting your scraps into specific width strips, or random width depending on the scraps at hand? Are you just strip piecing and then trimming them into squares or are you sewing them to foundations of some kind? Every time I come up with a "scrap busting" project, I just end up chopping up new fabric into even MORE scraps!

Your purple bin is much fuller than mine. I'd have a hard time coming up with blocks for this. Your's look great!

I've always done totally scrappy, anything goes string blocks, but I love your one-color ones! I may have to give that a try one day...

Thank you for writing about the RSC 17! I've been so eager to join in that I've already cut up my strips to make a string quilt! I agree with Sandra C's comment - you have inspired me to use these strips to make a string quilt for the RSC 17! Thank you for sharingF!
