Oh Scrap! : RSC Red

With a new month comes a new Rainbow Scrap Challenge color.  March equals Red!

Right off the bat I made my little 9 patch blocks.  The red looks so good with my black and white fabrics.  I still haven't decided how I will use these blocks but I am starting to get a pretty good stack of them to play with soon.

For my string blocks, I decided to go with 6" blocks this month.  I have very few "lights" in my red scrap bin so I can use a bunch of foundations I cut a long time ago from some print fabrics I knew I would never use.  The print will never show through the red fabrics.

I only have two blocks finished and I have a long way to go to empty my red scrap bin!

I don't think there is a lot of wiggle room with reds! Compared to blue, green or even yellow where different shades are in abundance. Reds can easily go pinky or orange-ish real fast! That being said...I really like your blocks with black and white. And what a great idea using a unappealing fabric for your foundation!

love your reds. I am busy sorting through small pieces of fabric today to make more retro air ship propeller block - the blocks are shown on the blog post previous to the one I linked.

Your reds look great with the black and white backgrounds! I have string blocks next on my list, too. Looking forward to sewing with red this week!

I like what you did - reds are a funky little group aren't they?

Very fun red blocks. I really like those 9 patches, very dramatic color combo.

I think it is great that you are using some unloved fabric for your foundation. No one would ever know unless you told them. Thanks!

Love your reds! I'm behind on mine, as usual. Still plodding through aqua and purple, as I want those scraps gone!

Red and black is a classic combination. But I am really loving the juicy orange blocks. I am sure they will become something gorgeous.
