Whenever I am making a Scrap-A-Palooza quilt, it seems that somewhere in the process, I come up with a similar design idea and end up making another quilt.
Such was the case with this Blue Stix quilt. As I was sewing up this quilt top, I realized that three "sticks" sewn together made a square block. My mind instantly started planning a new quilt.
I used this quilt as an opportunity to use up a bunch of solid scraps I had along with some low volume fabrics. I decided to go with colors in the blue, green and purple colorways.
The blocks are 9.5" unfinished. The strips are cut at 1.5" and 2.5".
I had a Jen Kingwell Gardenvale fabric in my stash that was almost large enough for the backing. I used a solid purple strip to make it wide enough. Some simple swirls in a white thread and it was finished!
I really like how simple these blocks are. I am sure I will be revisiting this Scrap-A-Palooza design in the future. I already want to make a third quilt - weaving the colors vertically and horizontally. Wouldn't that be pretty?
I have decided to donate this quilt to Happy Chemo as part of the Hands2Help challenge happening over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. I love this generous event and am happy to support it.
Thanks Sarah for organizing it!

YOU are AMAZING!!! Who else makes AND quilts a whole second quilt while working on another at the same time?!?! LOVE both of these!!
Thanks for the inspiration! What a great way to use up some of my 2.5" and 1.5" strips. Now to find the time to give it a try.
This is beautiful and spring-like. It is amazing what changing colors and layout can do to the overall look of a quilt. Thanks for sharing.
Great looking quilts. I'm so glad to know that it isn't just me that has to battle the "what ifs" as I work on a quilt. Sometimes, I think I could make at least 5 variations on a design if I didn't just make myself move on. Nothing wrong with that, just too many great patterns to explore.
Love the new quilt - I have a lot of solids to use up and this looks like a plan.
This is really beautiful! I love the gorgeous spring-y fabrics, and even the back is lovely. I'm sure the recipient will love it!
Great finish! Thanks so much for linking up!
I love the shades of blue, green, and purple you chose for this one! So pretty and spring-y!
Love them both. So cool that they look completely different with very little effort!
Great job on both of them. There is just something about scrap quilts that make them so special.
Now that's a fun colorful quilt that helped you use up some stash! What sizes did you cut your strips? Sorry if you mentioned it and I didn't see it, been up since 5am and a long day of fun sewing!
Such a simple, versatile block. I love it! I can't decide which of these two quilts I like better, the side by side bits or the square blocks. I can see why you simply had to make another :)
Wow those are both so great - it both directions!! you have a great mind!
Two wonderful quilts, love them both! I'm always amazed how effective simple patterns can be.
love it. it is funny how blocks seem to talk to you telling you what they want to be.
Another beautiful finish! It's always fun to see how the same block in different fabrics and orientations.
These are two great approaches for busting a bin of scraps! I especially like the second layout. I find it's hard to use up scraps that don't read as a solid, but combining them with a true solid and placing them in a design with such strong geometry, as you have, makes using up those multi-color prints possible. Excellent!
Your scrap quilts are so pretty! Love the layout.
I so love this pattern. Very versatile and fun to see!
That's an awesome quilt, and a great scrap buster! Thanks for being part of H2H2017!
Sweet Stix quilt! Gotta love it when you hit upon such a great idea and it turns out so well!
