TGIFF - Licorice Allsorts Finish

I have been waiting for a special day to share my finished Licorice Allsorts quilt and today is the day!

I made this quilt following crazymomquilt's #junequiltqal.  I knew as soon as I saw her sample that this quilt would be ideal for all of those black background scraps that I had piled up and never seem to use.
(I probably still have enough for a second quilt!)

I did make a few changes to Amanda Jean's instructions.  I knew a lot of my strings were up to 3" wide so I decided to make my strip sets 6" x 12".  I really am glad I made that change to the scale - it really fits these fabrics better.  The other change I made was to the cornerstones.  I decided to piece mine.  When I increased the size of the strip sets, that meant my cornerstones were larger too.  I felt a single fabric would stand out far too much - plus this way, I used more scraps.

That is always a big bonus!

One of my client's fell in love with this quilt before it was finished and offered to buy it.  Because it wasn't quilted yet, she got to pick the fabric for the backing.  She chose this mod print but there wasn't enough for the whole back.

I decided to add a giant strip set to the back.  How is that for scale!  I think she is going to love it.  I believe she plans on picking it up this weekend.

It is going to be a hard quilt to give up!  I am almost hoping she decides not to buy it....
Then it can be mine!

Thanks for stopping by TGIFF.  I hope you have a finish to link up!

Please remember to visit some of the quilters that link up their finishes before you run off.
It is a great way to be inspired and maybe make a new friend!  :)

How awesome that the quilt found its forever home before it was done. I'm betting she is going to love it. Great finish and modifications to make it work for your scraps and fabrics.

I like your version more than the original, I think it's your colour choices that made the difference for me and the way you changed the cornerstones. Lovely back, I love adding a panel to a standard width fabric, it makes such a nice back.

That really is a beautiful quilt! The black with brights fabric is a lot of fun. I like the modifications you made to it, too, like the pieced cornerstones. Looks like it will be very loved!

it looks really great and like how you did your backing too. I got the wall hanging top done and it is in the hoop.

Great finish. I'm all of selling a quilt unless I'm making it specifically for me.

I can see why you are thrilled with this quilt! It turned out gorgeous! Some times you have to make a few changes to a pattern to fit with your vision...you achieved it and then some! Since you have enough scraps for another one you'll just have to make one for you now!

The perfect name for your gorgeous quilt if I say so myself - hehehehe.

I really like this quilt with the touches of color in the blacks and cornerstones. Are you using a white or a gray for the plain squares? It's wonderful that it was sold before it was completed. Can't go wrong that way!!

That backing fabric is really pretty, and perfect to go with the gorgeous front. Don't get your hopes up - you know she's going to buy it :)

Oh, Cynthia, that is fabulous. Love the back too. I think pieced backs just give the quilts more personality and you really chose the right fabrics to coordinate.

It is fun to see your version. I finished my orange version recently. Enjoyed the quilt along! The "licorice" name is perfect....reminds me of those small, oval licorice candies.
