I don't often get to spend a whole day sewing. But when I woke up Saturday, I decided to take the day off and see what kind of trouble I could get into. I had spent some time Friday in my sewing room and decided I needed more!
And just what did I accomplish?
Throughout the day, I turned this "free gift" charm pack from Craftsy into a bunch of half square triangles. I think I ended up with 84 4.5" squares.
I turned those into this small little quilt. I added an outside solid border to get it a bit bigger. I think it finishes up at about 36" x 44".
I think the solid is Kona Snow. I had a large cut sitting on my cutting table that I was not sure where it came from. It looked like a slightly different dye lot than my fabric on the bolt. I really wanted to use it up so it didn't get mixed in with my other fabric.
So I decided to use the rest of it up on another orphan block quilt. I had pulled a bunch of turquoise and lime green blocks out of my little suitcase a few weeks ago. They too were sitting on the corner of my cutting table along with a bunch of gray scraps - which I used to frame all the blocks to give the quilt a bit more cohesive feel. This one measures about 50" x 65".
And my cutting table is all cleaned up!
And my cutting table is all cleaned up!
Friday I did finish another of my Burgoyne Surround blocks brining my total up to four.
So as you can see I was quite productive. I also spent some time cutting some triangles for a new project but I will share that some other day.
So you can see, I didn't spend a lot of time finishing up any of my UFOs. In fact, you could say, in one day I started 4 new projects. (sigh!)
Thankfully two are already quilt tops and will be finished soon!

Even if you didn't work on your UFOs, I bet you really enjoyed what you did work on and it felt creative! I love both of your projects! It's fun to see what you can do with HSTs and with orphan blocks.
isn't it nice what you can do with a little charm package
Maybe you didn't work on UFOs but you manage to put some orphan blocks to good use and that's a major accomplishment in my book. Congrats on getting two tops done. What kind of sewing machine you have? Is it equipped with a turbo motor or something? I'm in awe of all the work done. Love the two tops. ;^)
Love your charm pack quilt! What a great way to use up those squares before they get lost in the stash. The orphan block quilt turned out beautifully, it has a very restful vibe going on.
I just love that Burgoyne Surrounded block! Every time you post one, I want to start one for myself!
I love that you will never be done with your UFO's and even though you try...you always add a new design from scratch! I do love what you did with the first two. To have the entire day...I hope you were in you PJ's all day too!
Way to go!
I think using up orphans qualifies as tackling a UFO. I always love what you create out of "nothings." I have the same problem with the various white Grunge fabrics. I make sure I save a piece of the selvedge that includes the color dots. That won't work for Kona solids, though ...
What a lot you accomplished in one day! It's a great feeling to know you have cleared up some fabrics/scraps that would otherwise be packed away and probably never see the light of day for years. And made two quilt tops in the process. Well done.
Your creativity with orphan blocks continue to astound me! And I love your charm pack triangle quilt.
Great that you enjoyed a sew day! I really like the grey added to your orphan block quilt, really ties it together nicely. Thanks for your continued inspiration!
What a great sewing weekend you had. Bet you feel refreshed after accomplishing so much.
What a busy day, I love both quilts!
You are so creative with your Orphan Blocks...I have an overflowing bucket of Orphan Blocks that I need to challenge myself to use in 2018. Thank you for this and all of your inspirations.
You certainly know how to use orphan blocks. Congratulations on having a clean cutting table.
What a fantastic day! I love your new 'cleanup' quilts.
I really like the results of your HST play. And your orphans are in my favorite colors, so of course that is wonderful. :-)
Love your projects. You sure do know how to make scraps shine.
You know what that means if your cutting table is all cleaned up? High time to get 'er messy again, lol! You do amazing things with orphans :)
Looks like your day of sewing was very productive.
love the quilt from the charm pack. I love that off centred diamond.
It looks like your Saturday sewing was a big success. That must have been so satisfying!
Great finishes
Yes Cynthia you are productive or whatever the word is that means more productive! I love how the Kona white makes all the colurs so vibrant and fresh looking.
Hi Cynthia, I love your little quilt. BTW, I think that you're working with Kona white.
I always like Burgoyne Surrounded blocks and am glad you had a great sewing day.
I need to learn how to set aside a day just for sewing.....first I have to actually find a day when I get to stay home all day. That in itself would be a miracle.
That's why I love the quilt retreats.it's the only time I have full days dedicated to sewing. I also appreciate the 4 hour sit n' sew evening that the local quilt shop offers each month.
What a fun day!
