Slowly, I am claiming back my cutting table. Last week, as I was digging through some of the fabric that was stacked around, I came across a bunch of the trimmings from the backings of various quilts - you know, those long strips of fabric.
I really didn't want to stuff all of these into my stash so I brainstormed what I could do with them. Lucky for me, they were all shades of orange. I had a number of pieces of an orange daisy fabric because I had used it for a bunch of backs.
The widths of the strips were just perfect for my Wiggle Time pattern so I grabbed a few dark orange fat quarters (top and bottom) from my stash and started sewing.
I usually use a solid for the background, but this butterscotch daisy fabric sure worked well.
I still had a few other chunks of the fabric from the front that I used on the back to tie the quilt all together. What few bits of fabric were left all went into the orange scrap bin.
Now I have a cute little quilt ready for a new home! I am really happy I used a print as the background. I have been seeing a number of quilts from this pattern made that way, and they have all looked amazing.
Here is a photo of one of my clients' Wiggle Time quilts on my longarm frame. I love the striped background fabrics she used.
And I was recently emailed this photo from a beginner quilter I met at a quilt show in Salem. She purchased the fabric for it there at the show but it is so special to see it all together.
She did a beautiful job on it!
If you are looking for a quick and easy pattern, you can purchase the Wiggle Time pattern through both Payhip and Etsy.
It would be perfect for those Christmas fat quarters you still have in your stash!

Isn't that pretty, with all the different oranges! I love it! I bought that pattern awhile ago and haven't made it yet. So many projects to put on the list! :)
Christmas Wiggle, you say? Right up my alley! Maybe next year.....
That reminds me I need to cut out a few of these for donation quilts for 2019! I love your orange one and your customer one on the frame-very masculine looking. I have a couple free hours right now, perhaps I'll go pull the fabrics!
It looks fantastic with the orange daisy fabric in the background. I have a hard time figuring out what to do with those long strips from backings and then they usually end up in the scrap bin. This is a much prettier solution :)
Hi Cynthia! What a great finish for today, and an excellent use of those extra pieces of fabrics. Much better than adding it to the scrap bin. Happy Happy Friday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne
This is a great use of those left over fabrics and it makes a fun quilt. Thanks for sharing the other versions as well. It's nice to see a pattern in many different versions.
That floral background was an excellent choice! Love it!
That is a lot of Wiggling in one place, Cynthia. But if it is so much fun to wiggle, it is expected that more quilters will take up Wiggling :-) Love all the versions of it.
I like the background. It seems to give the quilt more movement.
Way to slash the stash, Cynthia!! Your cutting table will be clear in no time (and you'll have a huge stack of quilts to prove it.)
Daisy background is a big winner! What a cute quilt. I must do something like that with some long strips I’ve been meaning to clean up. Thanks!
Love it. So cute and sure to be loved by its recipient

This is great, all in orange! Very versatile and gender neutral, bright and fun. It must really be an easy pattern if you can just whip it out to clean off your table :)
Very pretty. Nice pattern. What size is the finished quilt?
I'm always hesitant to use a print as the background fabric, too. (I buy Kona Snow by the bolt for that!) But I'm glad you experimented here -- the end result looks fabulous!
You know I'm not a print kinda girl, but the background prints work well! You just snuck that finish in, didn't you! I think you're a maniac robot who never rests!
Great way to use of all those leftovers before they get added into the scrap bins. Love the back.
Good use of backing leftovers!
Great design and use of leftovers. Might just be on my list to make. Thanks for inspiring.
All three look great! I love that little daisy print!!
I love your bonus orange quilt. It's perfect for using scraps up and donating to a charity. I might need to try this pattern with a few hunks of stash fabric that I to use up to make room for more fabric. xoxo
