It's a Flimsy!

Yippee!  I finally sewed my Splendid Sampler blocks into a quilt top!

I started making these blocks the first part of 2016 as part of a quilt-a-long.  There were a total of 100 block designs but many were applique - which I skipped.

I used my Kaffe Fassett scraps.

There are a number of blocks that I really loved.  And many, I will probably go back and remake someday.  However, I am just not one who loves to make small blocks.

I wasn't sure if I was going to have enough of the blue background fabric for the entire quilt, so I used a green for the center medallion.  It was a good decision because I ended up with only a small strip of the blue fabric left!

Both of the background fabrics are a woven striped fabric.  I prefer fabrics with a texture to go with my scrappy blocks.  I don't know why but I am always looking for different lines of fabrics like this to keep in my stash.

Faux Linen Tonals Fabric Collection

So I was really excited when I saw that Connecting Threads has a new fabric called Faux Linen Tonals.  I will definitely be giving these a try.  I am in love with the Navy and Night blues!

Batting Sale

Connecting Threads also has all of their batting on sale right now too.  Stock up now for all those 2019 finishes!.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I always enjoy seeing your finished tops because you use disparate blocks and colors to create a lovely unified top. This flimsy is a perfect example.

(And yay for CT's batting sales! I do like to take advantage!)

So lovely. That red stripe around the edges just sets everything off perfectly, and I too love your background fabric - such a rich colour.

That is a great setting for the blocks. I did not do this SAL and it was great to see one set together. Nice!

Oh, this is so pretty! I really like how the blue-green sashing unifies all the bright blocks. I always stop short of setting blocks on point, but your quilt is making me want to try! It's beautiful, Cyndy!

Hi Cynthia! Is skipping allowed, even if they are appliquéd blocks?? Just kidding, of course. The blocks you chose to do are beautiful, and I love the blue sashing fabric you chose. Even more though, the center block with the green - it really pulls your eye right there, doesn't it?!! That is so ironic, because I just saw the new Faux Linen line from CT and was trying to decide how many and which I NEED to buy. Oh the choices. Happy Friday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

It's so lovely! I know what you mean about textured and interesting backgrounds, and that Faux Linen looks like a winner. I like working with solids only in pretty small doses. Give me something more juicy any day :)

What a gorgeous and dramatic quilt. The layout and colors are inspired, and that red/orange stop border is to die for! So unique!

Beautiful! I love the unique setting, it shows off the blocks so well and lets them “sing” in all their glory!

What a lot of work in those blocks. Looks great and I love those textury background type fabrics too.

Love the quilt top! Great choices for the background. I was drawn to the new faux linen from CT when I saw it. I've been on a fabric diet but am tempted to buy some yardage of this for backgrounds; just don't know what color to choose that would be most universal.

Somehow I missed leaving you a comment on your amazing sampler quilt! Beautiful and bright and what a centre you've created.

I am sure you are pretty happy to have the quilt top finally finished :) And the green for the center was a genious idea for the "short on background fabric" problem.

This flimsy looks great! And I agree: You can't beat the texture of a woven. It has depth an interest a plain, old solid can't offer.

Congratulations. I love the layout and how the blocks go in to the border. Well done.
