I always enjoy participating in the Fat Quarter Shop's block quilt-alongs. They do such a great job writing patterns for some really fun traditional/vintage blocks.
This time we are making the Union Square Block.
The first thing I had to decide on was what fabric to use for my block. I knew I wanted to use my Kona Butterscotch solid but I was torn between a modern or traditional print.
I decided on the traditional and soon had my pieces cut.
I do like to trim my HSTs so I cut my pieces at 3" square and got out my trusty hera marker (To mark the diagonal line - I just stack up about 4 squares and crease them all at once) and my BlocLoc ruler.
And here is my lovely 12.5" Union Square Block. You can find the complete quilt pattern here and there are links to the youtube video and other blocks here.
There are also kits available at the FQS if you want to go that route.

My plan is to make a few more and turn them into an autumn tablerunner. And maybe, I can get it done before Fall gets here!
The Fat Quarter Shop has many wonderful free patterns available on their website. You can find many of them here.

so many have mentioned the herra marker over the years and I bought one and and forget I have it and I don't think I have ever used it!
Ah, lovely fall colors Cynthia. So hard to think of fall when all the daffodils, camellias and azaleas are blooming! This will make for a pretty table runner.
I love that Kona Butterscotch! I may need to get some just to play with, lol! That's a neat block, too. I'll have to go check out the other quilters' versions of it.
Oh, that block is pretty! Makes me think of dark chocolate salted caramel! I agree, FQS patterns are so well done. I'm looking forward to making more of the blocks!
That will look lovely on your Autumn table!!
Lovely block. Thanks for sharing the links and info.
Like the colors - pretty block!
Your block is beautiful and that Kona Butterscotch just looks YUMMY! Interesting how that color can go modern or antique-vibes, depending on which print you put next to it.
I love the three fabrics together!! What a gorgeous combo.
