Oh Scrap! : October RSC Blocks

It is time to pull out those dark scraps for October's RSC blocks.  I didn't used to like these colors in my rainbow quilts but I have grown to appreciate them - especially brown.  It's warm color really blends well with all of the other colors.

I finished up my ten Bright Hope blocks in brown.  I don't have any plans to make them in black but I might make some in gray - I need to think about what size I want this quilt to be.

So far I only have forty of these 6" blocks so I have a long ways to go.

While I already shared my snail block last month, I did make a chicken block for my garden quilt.  Just so those snails don't get out of control (however my possum and raccoon family that I share my property with think they are a treat too.)

Last winter I was adopted by a wayward chicken so I wanted her in my quilt.  This is her staring in my studio window wanting food - it only took her about a day to find me.  She soon found she could actually get right on the window sill.  Which can be quite a shock when you turn around and aren't expecting her!  She has since found a new home and is quite happy.

I still need to make this month's blocks for my garlic knots and my 25-patch.
There is still plenty of time!

Of course that wayward chicken has to be in your garden quilt! What a great memory she will be for you! I like your brown Bright Hopes blocks - you have some pretty browns. Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!

Congrats on getting your Bright Hopes in BROWN blocks out of the way early in the month! Plenty of time remaining for other DARK scraps to be transformed into usable blocks. The chicken block will be a fun addition to your Garden Quilt, too!

I love the chicken block! I like your idea of brown bright hopes blocks, that is a neat idea. I have a lot fo 2-1/2" strips to be used, maybe in browns? I think there maybe a squirrel coming to my sewing room. Speaking of squirrels, I've had the experience of looking up and seeing a squirrel hanging on the screen of my 2nd story sewing room! That was a thrill. Happy Stitching!

Loving the browns! The chicken block is so cute even though having a chicken staring through the window would give me the creeps for reasons I can’t explain. I’m glad she found a home.

A wayward chicken. How funny! Love your RSC blocks this month. Maybe you could pair them up with another block for a quilt.

All colors have some merit in quilt making! Years ago I made a politically-themed quilt that used both Bright Hopes and Broken Promises blocks among others.

Lovely scrappy blocks, Cynthia! And yes, I bet it would give you a start to find a chicken peering in at you. Glad she now has a good home.
