Over the holidays, I took some time off and focused on getting some tasks done around my house. One of those tasks was to replace the canvas leads on my longarm.
Once I got them installed, I needed to test them out with one of my own quilts, so I loaded up the Kaffe Fassett orphan block quilt I was working on at the end of last year.
I was really thinking hard about not finishing this quilt.
The beauty in this one was in the making of it, not the finished top!
All of the bits and pieces in this quilt were leftovers or discarded blocks from previous quilts.
The only fabric that really came out of my stash was the dark plum.
Even the purple fabric I used as the backing was free due to an inventory error.
I might have invested in about a yard of fabric for this one!
But the main reason I decided to finish this one up is I found a good home for it. Also over the holidays, the small blanket I always keep in my car was needed in an emergency situation. So now this quilt can take its place. Its durable, it can easily be washed and I am not attached to it so however it gets used is fine with me!
Now I am back to working on client quilts and my longarm looks great with its new canvas leads.
Time to start planning my quilts for 2020!

I love that you created order out of chaos with this quilt! And you're right - every quilt finds a home. Love the quilting, too!
I am always amazed at the synchronicity of how things happen sometimes. Every tine you see this quilt in your car you’ll be reminded of giving your ‘car quilt’ at a time of need. Nicely quilted. And this quilt certainly has personality!!! Love quilts with personality. They always stand out.
Please tell me alllll about replacing the canvas leads on your longarm! I think I need to do this to mine....
Nice to have a reason to finish this one and a home for it to go to! I enjoyed watching along the way as you figured out how these blocks could work together!
I have a few quilts just for that purpose! LOL
Congratulations on getting another quilt finished. I am glad it found a good home.
Congratulations on the finish! The quilt looks great. I have a box with HST and leftover blocks in different sizes. One day I'm going to attack that box! :)
This quilt hinted that it wanted a road trip, and you gave it a full time traveling life! It's a good life :)
A new car quilt! Perfect!
That's the way I approach quilt projects, too. I make what I want or have the fabric to make, and eventually, I'll figure out an appropriate recipient for it (and sometimes that recipient is me!). Enjoy your new car quilt! : )
So wonderful when a quilt finds a use/home!
Such a great idea!
I love the idea of an emergency quilt in the car that you aren't emotionally attached to! Great idea, and great use for this one.
Pleased to read that the quilt has a new home. I love what you've created from your leftovers and I guess we all could follow your example and use those parts up, all about recycling.
