Another Scrappy Finish

I finished this quilt top quite a while ago.  It has been just sitting around waiting for me to quilt it up.  I had some time on my frame this week so I snuck it in between some client quilts.

I have made this design a few times in the past.  This time I narrowed the colors down to just red, orange and yellow.

(Due to all the fires and smoke in our area, everything has a very orange cast to it.  And the smoke is so bad, I don't stay outside long!)

I had a whole bunch of black and white chunks of fabric that worked perfectly for these blocks.  The fabric for the 9 patches all came out of the scrap bins.

I used a red sketch fabric I purchased from Connecting Threads for the backing and framed it up with a black binding.

I went back out and tried to get a better photo.  With some filtering I was able to get one showing the colors better.

I have always loved this block design and I will be sharing some similar quilts soon.

I have an abundance of scraps right now and I am focused on getting them made into quilts!

Have a wonderful weekend.  My thoughts are with the many families in the west driven out of their homes due to the wildfires.  Some rain would be nice!

a nice simple quilt and it looks so good! I need to do something like this and use up some of this darn fabric that I have stuffed in bins

I always say simple is best. Thanks for more inspiration!

Wow! I love this one. I'm a sucker for 9-patch and orange so this one is a winner in my book. It's unbelievable the difference in color the smoke makes. Staying inside is a good idea. I wish I could sent them some rain. It's raining almost every evening here. If not in the evening, then it's in the morning. If they call for 40% chance of rain, I bet you a hundred it will be right above my village. Sigh! If only I could ship it down south. Take care. ;^)

Great use of a nine patch block! The black binding frame it out very nicely. :)

The smoke and poor air quality is no joke. I've been inside my house for almost 3 weeks and I'm not sleeping so well without my evening walk. I keep hoping that the fires will get better. I'm sorry it has gotten so bad up by you as well.

Wonderfully scrappy quilt! My heart hurts for all our Oregon family, friends and former neighbors who are enduring this horrible destruction. Stay safe!

Lovely finish. The colors do capture the feel of the fires and smoke. We'd all rather have pretty colors without the unfortunate cause though. Here in Colorado we've had our own fires and very poor air quality. Some days I just don't go outside. It even smells smokey inside. Thankfully the snow this week helped clear things up and dampen the fires. Praying for all the west who have lost theirs homes.

Nice quilt, and the colors are very fall-ish! I need to get going on some scrappy quilts, the piles are becoming quite tall in my sewing room. Stay safe!

Great scrappy quilt! Love the colors although where I live in IN those colors are less ominous! Stay safe.

I love the warm colors of your 9 patches paired with the black and white prints! What size did you make the blocks? Wishing you some rain to clear out the air, and slow down those fires! The wet snow here earlier in the week really helped with that.

The limited palette and the contrast between the hot yellow/oranges and the cooler black/white/grays plus the graphic simplicity of the 9-p/hourglass -- all adds up to a smashing design!

Classic design, scrappily executed! I've got a stack of nine patches that are rumbling that they need to get used soon. Tucking this into my back pocket as inspiration :)

Very nice!!!! Glad you made a quilt to commemorate the fires even though it is a sad, scary current event. However, the quilt has all the more meaning behind it. Bravo!

First time reader, your image caught my eye. I was immediately taken to the fires and then to read that you are in the PNW. I wish you well and know that your image shared your thoughts well.

Beautiful and someone will be very happy with it.

This a great quilt Cynthia. I like the restricted colour palette and your use of the 'low volume' prints.
I hope you get the rain very soon and stay safe in the meantime.

Love your scrappy quilt. I would have never thought of using the black-and-white with the red-orange-yellow but it sure works. Well, I thought the black/white was gray which I also like. This inspires me to think outside my comfort zone. I'm in So. Calif. and the smoke is bad here too. Praying for those who lost their homes and for all the emergency personnel fighting these fires.
