First 2021 RSC Finish

I love this time of year.  Not only is it my favorite season, it is also the time of year when quilters wrap up their Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  They are always so exciting to see.

I have finished my scrappy Well Suited quilt.  When I started this quilt, I wanted to work on cleaning out some of the "unwanted" big chunks of scraps clogging up my scrap bins.

I used solid scraps for the center flying scraps and then paired them with a coordinating print.  This quilt was all about making space in the scrap bins!

I could have used just about anything on the back but I was in the mood for red.  So I used a print I had purchased from Connecting Threads.  I also used a red print I had in my stash for the binding.

Well Suited is the first pattern module of my Scrap Mixology series.  This is the fifth or sixth quilt I have made and each one looks so different!

The Scrap Mixology patterns are designed around a basic block.  Each module is about 14 pages and includes the instructions for the block along with lots of ways to "mix up" the design through small changes in color placement or components.

This version is very similar to the one I just completed except I used a color placement that gives the effect of a woven design.

Here is ne I made using black and whites in the 9 patches and primary colored prints.

This one is one of my favorites.  I used the pinwheel option for this one.

But I do like this one too!

So far I have completed three Scrap Mixology patterns.  I am hoping to release the fourth one later this month.  Wait until you see the quilts made for this one!

You can see all the Scrap Mixology patterns I have released to date on this page.  They are available as pdf downloads in my Etsy shop and my Payhip store.

All of the Scrap Mixology blocks make great Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.
It is almost time to start choosing blocks for 2022.

I have three more RSC quilts to finish before the end of the year.
I had better get sewing!

All holiday fabric is on sale at Connecting Threads.  Grab it before it is gone!

Oh Scrap! : Still Making Progress

This last week I continued to work on finishing blocks for a few of my scrappy projects.

Look what I found!  I knew I had made four of these Chaser blocks last week.  I found this missing one in a wrong stack of blocks.

I finished five more of my Well Suited blocks.  I think I now have just two more blocks to complete and I can start sewing the quilt top together.  I have to admit, I am getting pretty bored of this project so I am super happy to winding it up soon.

I also used some of my bonus triangle pinwheels to make a couple more pinwheel blocks.

I think I will aim for a 5 x 6 block layout on this quilt.  So I have 11 more blocks to complete.  I have a small stack of pinwheels next to my sewing machine to turn into blocks so I should have a final count by the end of next week.

The next stack of blocks I need to sew are these color blocks.  I have two more orange blocks to sew this month and then I need to put them up on the design wall to see what other colors I need.  I am hoping to complete this quilt top some time in October.

So it has been another busy week of working on scrappy blocks.

I look forward to lots of finishes soon!

Oh Scrap! : Various Blocks

I have a large pile of various cut blocks sitting next to my sewing machine so that when I get a moment, I can go in there and sew a few seams.  I never quite know what blocks are going to end up being completed.  But I seem to have made some more progress this week.

I finished up six more RSC Well Suited blocks.  I think I just need to sew the pieces next to my machine and I will have enough for my quilt.  This quilt is really scrappy and will probably end up being a donation quilt at some point.

I always like to have a few of those on hand!

I only completed one of my pinwheel blocks.

At least it had a bit of orange in it for September's RSC color!

And speaking of orange, I finished up 3 more Chaser blocks to add to the four turquoise blocks I sewed last month.  (I could have sworn I sewed up four orange blocks so I think one is hiding somewhere - I am sure I will find it soon.)

For giggles, I made a couple blue basket blocks.  I really love these little blocks when they are finished but I am not a fan of all those HSTs.

Have a Scrappy Sunday!

Oh Scrap! : Scrappy Block Progress

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately in my sewing room.

I finished up nine more of my Well Suited blocks.  I have been working on this RSC quilt all year and have decided I just want to get it done.

I think I want a 7 x 9 layout so that means I need 22 more blocks.  I think I have 13 blocks cut and waiting to sew.  I might have to raid some stash pieces to find some solid colors (for the geese) that I haven't used yet.  So far all of these have been in my scrap bins.

When I make the geese for the Well Suited blocks, I turn the cut away triangles into these cute little pinwheel blocks.  All of the blue pinwheels, I made when I made this blue Well Suited quilt.

So far I have 16 blocks completed.  This will be another quilt I should be able to finish up hopefully this month.  My plan is to sash these blocks with a wider white strip than the strip in the block.  I think I will add some scrappy cornerstones too.

I also made some more basket blocks but they got mixed into a stack before I got a photo.  Hopefully I will just have a finished quilt soon!

What are you working on!

Oh Scrap! : Focussing on some Finishes

I feel like I haven't had a finish in a really long time.  I find myself juggling a number of projects each month and don't feel like I am making much progress.  So I feel think it is time to focus on a few and get a few projects to the finish line.

A quick and easy finish is the baby quilt I just started.  This week I finished cutting all the scrappy squares and put it up on my design wall.  Now all I have to do is start sewing!

I also decided to direct some attention to finishing up my Well Suited RSC quilt.  (Well Suited is one of my Scrap Mixology pattern modules.)  I dug through all of my scrap bins this week and pulled all the solid colors I haven't used yet.  I sewed up eight more blocks this week but ran out of white on white fabric so I ordered a bunch through Connecting Threads.  Eight yards is already headed my way!

I moved all of my finished blocks into my sewing room.  I have 34 blocks completed and an additional 14 blocks cut out and just waiting to be sewn.  I think that will leave 15 blocks to finish up once my fabric order arrives.  Lots of older scraps are going into this one!

I am still looking at a few of my other unfinished projects to see if there is something else I am in the mood to finish.  Right now I have 22 WIPs to choose from!  Yikes!!

I am curious, how many projects do you juggle at a time?

Oh Scrap! : Turquoise Blocks

The month of August is Teal/Turquoise/Aqua for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at So Scrappy.

So I dug through my turquoise color bin and found two solid shades that I haven't used in my Well Suited RSC project.

(Well Suited is the first module of my Scrap Mixology series patterns.
A total of three have been released so far.)

I put them up on my design wall with the other blocks I have completed so far.  I definitely need to do a deep dive into all of my color bins to find more solid shades.  I think I want a total of 56 blocks for this quilt (a 7 x 8 block configuration).  That means I still have 30 more blocks to make.  I am not sure it will get completed this year.

I also turned the bonus HSTs from the geese components into these cute little pinwheels.  They will eventually go into another project needing my attention.

I am still making basket blocks.  I finished up this one in dusty teals.

And decided to make a couple of blocks in navy blue.

I still need a few more turquoise blocks for some of my RSC projects.  Now that the turquoise color bin is on my cutting table, I hope to get them this week.

How about you...Did you have a productive scrappy week?
