Oh Scrap! : Seeing a Trend

Happy Fourth to all of those in the US.  It was nice that our weather cooled somewhat so many can get out and enjoy the holiday weekend.  I still decided to stay home close to the AC and sew.

I am finding myself excited about a new project I started.  I am always on the lookout for scrap quilt inspiration and recently I have been noticing I have a lot of turquoise, lime and black/gray fabric.

Like...A LOT.

So I started pulling them and cutting them into 2.5" squares.  I found quite a bit of my fabric was already cut into 2.5" strips so the process was pretty easy.

I decided to sew the squares up into these 16 patches.

The next step was to pull some solid bits and frame them.  I like what I am seeing so far!

Even after sewing up quite a few blocks, I realized I am not putting a dent in the amount of scraps I have.  So I think I am going to shoot for a larger twin sized quilt.

To speed up the cutting process, I got out my AccuQuilt cutter and the 2.5" multiples die.  I love that I can cut up to 12 squares from one chunk of fabric.  In just a few minutes I had enough squares cut for most of the quilt top. Now I can quickly get to the sewing and I am not going to be wondering why my hands are so sore!

Have a great weekend....I will be in my sewing room playing with scraps!

What a great color combination and your number of scraps continues to amaze me!! I've not made a postage stamp type block; but I might have to delve into some now!

what a fresh color combo this is! I know what you mean about scraps, I open the box and take out a bed quilt worth and still can't reclose the box! But I love them and it would be sad to have none left, right?

Great idea for your quilt. And, I love my multiple cuts 2.5" die. Although I admit I haven't put it to use recently. Glad your weather is moderating. We had a great weekend but it'll soar back into the 90s with high humidity during the week. Bah!
