Oh Scrap! : Sorting Fabrics into Kits

Most of my sewing this week was putting together brown/blue rail fence blocks into quilt tops.  But I am trying to work on other quilts at the same time.

I have finished all the blocks for this quilt top and have almost all the rows sewn together.  I hope to get it loaded up on the longarm next week.

A lot of my time has been spent sorting and organizing donated fabrics.
A good friend showed up this week with a big bag full of flannel bits she thought I could make into some smaller quilts.  I organized them into stacks and hope to turn them into some small kid's quilts.
(My little quilt inspector was close by making sure I was doing things right.)

She also gave me two big bags filled with flannel squares all prepped to be turned into rag quilts.  I organized these so that I can just grab a stack when I need a quick finish.

The generosity in donated blocks and fabrics has been amazing.  I am trying to get blocks and fabrics into kits as they arrive.  That way I know if I work on something, it will become a finished quilt and not get held up waiting for a back or something else.

Hopefully next week I will have some new blocks to share.
I need to start thinking about my 2023 RSC blocks!

Kitting up your donated scraps is such a good idea! I have a bunch of strips in several different lengths that came from a kit for a Jen Kingwell quilt that someone gave me. I decided not to make particular quilt, but would like to use them up. Ideas? Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!

You are so organized! Keeping the scraps organized is almost a full time job it seems. Happy stitching this week.

Isn't this time of year busy enough without having to kit some scraps? You amaze me! ;^)

Good job sorting your donated scraps into kits. I actually cut out a few quilt kits over the summer and it has been really handy when I feel like sewing but don't feel like making any decisions.

It's so smart to get organized. I hope your inspector approved of the work!

You are so organised! With all the donated scraps, better do it and done with it. Did the inspector approve the work?

This was such a fun post! Over the last four years that I’ve been making donation quilts and receiving scrap donations from friends, I’ve been organizing my scraps into quilt kits. I have at least a couple dozen, and your post has given me the idea to share and talk about the kits and what my thought process is. Have a Merry Christmas!

How wise you are to make kits out of the donation bits. . .that way you don't forget what you have and you always have a project available when you finish one! Do share a post about your Inspector General. I've wondered how you are getting along.

Your blocks for the new quilt are glorious, I love the effect now seeing them in rows all ready for stitching. Is there a pattern for this one?

I am so impressed with your organization and kitting up of the scraps/blocks to keep up the momentum of making the donation quilts. I've been living under a rock lately and having just come out from under it, realized what you are up to collecting blocks. Wonderful idea. I will keep watch in the future to see how I might be able to contribute.
