Oh Scrap! : The Next Scrap Quilt

I have finished all of my scrap quilts, so I decided to start a new one this weekend. Looking on the scrap shelf, I see there are a lot of purple and pink chunks of fabric. I also recently received a few fat quarters of white-on-white fabric. I decided to start there!

I didn’t want to choose a block that required a bunch of cutting or sewing. Putting together a scrap top quickly is my goal. Keeping up with all the scraps is becoming quite a challenge - especially the storage of all them.  And we know I am unable to toss any of them!

I decided to go with a snowball block. I cut the colored prints at 6.5” square and the squares for the flip corners at 2”. I don’t think it will take me long to make the 99 blocks I need for a top. Who knows, maybe I will end up making two quilts!

What is your favorite go-to scrap block?

Love the snowballs!!!

That pansy fabric is so fun! I like the other colors you've chosen to go along with it, too. Will the snowballs be the only block in the quilt? (I've seen snowballs combined with 9 patches that make a neat design!) Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!

Snowball blocks are easy and quick to assemble and yet, I haven't done one yet. My go-to scrap block is 9-Patch, Shoo Fly, or Economy Block. I'm always low on white/neutral but with these blocks I can use two prints. That works best with the kind of scraps I receive. Enjoy the sewing. ;^)

I have used your snowball block before. It works up quickly and makes a nice pattern when done.

Quick and easy will help move those scraps along. I'm in the same boat with way too many scraps. Happy stitching this week.

That is a great block and it ought to use a good amount of scraps since you need 99 of them! I totally relate to not being able to throw any scraps away!

Mmm, snowball blocks, as you say, nice and easy. I know I've got a bunch of squares sitting around, this pattern is a great way to deal with them.

My favorite block just now is the pineapple block. I have too many really tiny scraps, and it's so good to bring them into use.

I don’t have a favorite as I am continually using my scraps. A fun one we did for Kat was the potato chip block. It used a lot of shorter strips and never got boring.

Pink and purple scraps are great! Snowball is a good choice, especially to show off pretty prints. My go-to blocks are the old standbys, four patch, nine patch, bowtie, etc. Scraps--gotta use 'em all!

Only 99 blocks? egads! I've made several snowball blocks. I like to make a lot of different blocks but right now two different size 9 patches are on my to do lists. (Actually the small one is a leader ender and never show up on the list!)
