The Best of 2021

 Every year, Cheryl over at Meadow Mist Designs, hosts her "Best of " linky party.  I have joined in the fun for quite a few years now. 

 I like that it makes me look back on the year and enjoy the quilts I finished.  

This year was all about scrap quilts.  An early quilt I made was this blue and brown courthouse steps quilt.  I was initially thinking my sister might want it once she finishes building her new house.  But one day my neighbor came over and wanted it for her newly refurbished livingroom.  I couldn't argue - it looks perfectly at home.

...and I get to visit it often!

My favorite quilt for the year was this one made for one of my Scrap Mixology patterns.  The pattern is called Bloom. Who knew when I started out that I was going to fall in love with this one?  I am not sure if it is the colors, the layout or the design...but it now resides in my personal collection.

When I wasn't playing with scraps, I did finish a few quilts from stash fabric.  I had quite a few projects that have been sitting in fabric piles for quite some time.  The fabric for this All That Jazz quilt was gifted to me by a friend.  I really loved the fabrics and didn't want to cut them up into small pieces.  

So this pattern worked perfectly!

And finally, some of my favorite finishes every year are the quilts I help finish for Covered in Love.  The blocks are all finished by others and I just sew the blocks together and quilt them.  I enjoy looking at all the scrap fabrics other people own.  In 2021 there were a total of seven or eight.  You can look back on them here, here, here, and here.  I am so thankful for the support I get in pattern sales and affiliate links here on my blog as it allows me to step away from my client quilts and work on these donation quilts.  It feels good to give back - I am hoping to help out again in 2022.

Another New Start

 Recently I finished a quilt made entirely from my stash.  It had been a long time since I have made anything from something other than scraps.  I enjoyed the process so much, I decided to see what else I had in my stash to play with.

I came across this selection of fabrics.  I also dug out a really old pattern that I have made numerous time.  It is called Studio Chic by Artichoke Collections.  I think the pattern is out of print but you can still buy used online.

I like it because the pieces are large. (Ha!)

Large pieces is why I enjoyed the last quilt I made using my All That Jazz pattern - it is a nice break from all the small scraps I am usually using!

This newest project might take me a bit to finish.  I still have all the 1" sashing to cut and then a lot of sewing to do to frame all the squares.

....and I still have about three scrap quilts currently in the works!

All That Jazz Finish

 For the past few years, I have really been focusing on my scraps to make all of my quilts.

When  a friend shared some beautiful leftover prints with me, I went to my stash and pulled some coordinating fabrics to make myself a quilt.  

I decided to use my All That Jazz pattern - I really didn't want to cut these fabrics up into tiny pieces.  I love the bold geometric feel this pattern has.

I am really smitten with the orchid and gold color combination with the berry colors.  I hope to remodel my living room one of these years and this color scheme is in the running.

On the back of this quilt you will find one of the handdrawn wide backings I shared from Connecting Threads.  The purple version was perfect for this quilt.

I really enjoyed making this quilt!  It was nice to work with big pieces for a change (versus the small scrappy bits I am always digging through).  In fact, I have pulled another stack of fabric from my stash that I will share soon for another quilt.  I am just waiting for a pattern design to jump out at me.

When I was outside photographing my quilt, I couldn't help but notice my tree lilies - they smell so amazing right now.  Their scent is really bringing in the pollinators right now.  All of my lavender, solidago and sedums are abuzz with fascinating insects.

Just my small little plot of land reminds me continually of how amazing nature is. 

We really must protect this planet more....

It's A Flimsy

 Even though I don't have a complete finish, I thought I would share my recent flimsy to prove I have been sewing a bit.

TA DA!  I love the color purple and all of the berry shades in this quilt top make me so happy.  

Most of the floral fabrics were a generous gift from a friend.  I had said how I loved these prints and she shared some leftovers with me once she finished her quilt.  I really didn't want to cut them up small, so I used my All That Jazz pattern.

I love it!

My daylilies are starting to bloom so I have been outdoors enjoying them.  These are probably one of my favorites right now.

The ones on the bottom of the photo are called Butter Popcorn.  They are so ridiculously big and yellow.  I think I have about 30 varieties all told - so I get to spend a lot of time each evening deadheading.

But I think I will be skipping my gardens for a few days.  It is supposed to get up to 110 degrees on Sunday.  Our all time highest temperature is 108 and that happened in August of 1981.

I don't like the heat...

If I do go outside, I will probably be hiding in my cooler shade garden.  If you meander down the path, there is a sitting spot just under a big douglas fir tree.

Somehow I think I will just hide in my sewingroom with the fan blowing :)

Rewarding Myself

 I haven't allowed myself to start something new in a really long time.  But after finishing all the Covered In Love quilts and making great progress on some of my WIPs, I thought I deserved to start a new project.

Quite a while back, a friend gifted me with these three lovely fabrics.  I had commented that I really liked these when she brought a quilt for me to quilt for her.  She had some leftover cuts so she passed them onto me.  They have been sitting on the corner of my cutting table since then - just waiting for some inspiration.

I knew I wanted to keep the pieces big because this quilt is going to be all about these pretty fabrics.  So I went to my stash and pulled some pieces to go with them.  I think I need one more fabric - I just haven't decided if it will be a gold or a pink.

I decided I was going to revisit one of my own patterns.  All That Jazz is a quick and easy project that really highlights big special prints.  The above quilt (that is the pattern cover quilt), I made using some of my favorite Kaffe Fassett prints.

I can't wait to see how this new version turns out!

A Mini Quilt Show

 Pretty regularly, I receive photos of quilts made using one of my patterns.  I always love to see them and thought I would share a few of them with you today.

Here is a wonderful quilt made from my Wiggle Time pattern.  I love the solid color and the quilting she added that "wiggles" across the quilt..  This lap size pattern takes five fat quarters and some background fabric - you probably have the fabric in your stash!

This quilt was made using my All That Jazz pattern.  After seeing this one, I remembered I have a tub full of neutrals like black and taupe fabrics that would be perfect for this pattern.

Check out these two quilts made from my Spin! pattern.  I even had the pleasure of quilting the orange one.  I think it is the first quilt I have seen in that orange/gray combination...

I like it!

My Summertime Blossoms pattern was used to make this sweet little baby quilt.

And finally, I also received a photo of  this Geese Migration quilt.  The color work is amazing!  I really love to teach this class and I look forward to someday getting back out sewing with new and old friends.  Hopefully that will happen someday soon!

A Mini Quilt Show

It has been a while since I have shared some of the photos others have sent me of quilts made form my patterns.  I love to see what people make and thought you might like to see them too.

This sweet quilt was made using my Summertime Blossoms pattern.  It was made from one of the students in a class I did last year.  I love the soft colors in it.

Wiggle Time quilts are always a favorite.  Five fat quarters and some background fabric and in no time you have a quilt top.  The variations are truly endless!

Next up is some lovely Geese Migration quilts.  This is one of my favorite classes to teach.  Hopefully one of these days I will be able to travel to teach again - I really miss it!

And finally an All That Jazz quilt.  This is an old quilt of mine that I just rediscovered.  It was pulled from some older stash fabric.

A Quilt Round Up!

As a pattern designer, I love to see the quilts made using my patterns.  And in the month of February, there were a number of quilts that were shared with me and I wanted to share them with you.  

So many great and inspiring ideas!

This one is made using the Wiggle Time pattern instructions for a scrappy version.  All of the fabrics are dots. So Cute!













This one is also made using the Wiggle Time pattern.  This is a version using the instructions for fat quarters.












Here is another scrappy version.  I love all those bright colors!










Another bright colored one using black as the background.  Notice how the batik fabrics fade across to the right!










And finally another scrappy version.  Once again, it looks like someone used their stash of dotted fabrics.  I do love that red backing!

There have even been a few quilts shared using my newest pattern All That Jazz.  This one was made with some Asian fabrics all pulled from a quilter's stash.

All That Jazz Quilt

Friday is finally here and today I am celebrating the release of my second pattern!  I call this one "All That Jazz" and it is available in a .pdf download from both my Etsy and my Payhip Store.

You know I am a fan of saturated colors and bold prints and this pattern showcases them both beautifully.  I made this quilt with some yummy Kaffe Fassett prints and shot cottons.

But I have also made it with more modern fabrics and unexpected colors.  The pattern requires 5/8 yard of 9 different prints - fabrics you might even find in your stash right now.

The pattern is perfect for the beginner quilter or the advanced quilter.


The instructions are for a finished quilt that is 60 x 72".
