Oh Scrap! : Pretty in Pink

When I went to sew up this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks, I was surprised by how few pink scraps I have.  But I did find enough to sew up all of my blocks for July.  

I haven't decided if the lack of pink scraps is a good or bad thing....

I now have 24 hatchet blocks for my RSC16 Column Along, two more framed chain blocks and one cute little piglet ready for their respective quilts.  

Pete (my longarm) and I are taking a couple weeks off.  First time in almost 10 years that we have taken a long vacation.  But I am hoping to concentrate my time on finishing up so many projects I have been ignoring.

Old WIPs, Housework, Painting, Exercise, Eating Right, Yardwork....

Doesn't sound like much of a vacation but I am looking forward to it!
(It will be interesting to see how this goes - The first day I threw out my to-do list out and headed to a LQS with a friend.  There may have also been big cheeseburgers for lunch. I hope Day 2 is better!)

Oh Scrap! : RSC16 Blocks

I am so much happier now that the weather is cooler!  I live in the pacific northwest because I like moderate weather.  I get a bit grumpy when temperatures are in the 90's.  And unfortunately for me, my AC decided to go out on day one of the heatwave.  My sewing room became a sweatshop...literally!

As soon as it cooled, I was able to get my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks sewn up.  The color for June is teal, which is a favorite of mine.

Two quilts are slowly growing on my big design wall.  Each will have a total of twelve 14" blocks.

I also was able to make a teal piglet.  He is quite the sassy fellow.  I also have a plan for these blocks which I will be sharing in a few months.  Just two more blocks needed for this one!

I didn't get a chance to work on my Rainbow Scrap Sampler - hopefully I will have those blocks finished by next Sunday.

Keep sewing those scraps!

Oh Scrap! : RSC16 May Blocks

Wishing you all a Happy Mother's Day!

With a new month comes a new color for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  The color for May is green - a color I seem to have an awful lot of scraps in.

First up are my chain blocks.  I made up another two blocks in dark green because I previously made some in lime.  Last month I made the decision to frame my blocks.  I will be turning these into two kid size donation quilts at the end of the year.

I started this project at the end of last year so I have 6 colors done to date.  Each block is 14" so a setting of 3 x 4 blocks will work perfectly - and take me out to the end of this year's challenge.

I also finished a little green piglet.  I finally have a plan for these blocks too.  But you will have to wait until the end of the year to see the setting.  Sorry!

Here is the entire litter so far. For my vision, I will need about 9 oinkers so this project will finish up this year also.

And I have been steadily completing my neutral string blocks.  I think I only have a batch of 5 left to finish.  So I am hoping to see a finished quilt soon!

Oh Scrap! : Rainbow Scrap Challenge Blocks

I am happy to report, I have sewn up all of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks for the month!  The color for March is purple, which is one of my favorite colors.

First up was a kaleidescope of butterflies for my RSC16 Sampler quilt. Angela had not released a pattern yet when I started making these little blocks so mine might look a little different than others.

I also made a couple of chain blocks and a purple piglet.

Here are all my chain blocks together.  They look a bit of a mess but I do have a plan for them.  It will be a lot more colorful when I am finished with it!

  And here are my three little pigs I have completed so far.  This month, I made my pig a bit larger.
I have no idea what I am going to make with these blocks but I sure do enjoy their company in my sewing room.

Oh Scrap! : Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2016

It is a new year so it is time to pick new Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks.  For January, Angela over at So Scrappy has picked the color blue so I quickly sewed up some blocks today.

Every month I have decided to sew up two chain blocks and one little pig block in the chosen color.  These blocks are 12" so by the end of the year, I am sure I will have enough blocks for more than one quilt.

I was initially going to just sew up the chain blocks but, well, the piglet blocks were just too darn cute!

I sewed up a few test blocks last year so I already have 8 blocks finished!

Oh Scrap! : Piglet

One of the hardest things about having a weekly linky party is I get far too distracted by all the great projects that get shared every week.  With a long list of holiday gifts needing to be made, I still found myself spending time playing with a few scraps....

Cutting so many tiny little pieces....certainly not my norm.

But I just had to try making the little piglet block that Gayle shared a few weeks ago.

I am not sure I chose scraps with enough contrast for my test block but we will just pretend my little piggy just had himself a little mud bath.

I extended my block out to 12" because I was considering corralling my piglets with my RSC16 chain blocks. 


The block was originally shared on The Objects of Design, where you can find a tutorial.


....now if I can just find someone to do all that cutting and the fussy piecing.  But they are pretty cute so maybe I can get through one piggy block a month!

And if you like to see how other quilters store their scraps, Linda over at Koka Quilts shared some photos of her sewing space.  I really like how she stores her stash and scraps all together.  After all, aren't they all just scraps?
