More Scrap Finishes

I thought today I would take the opportunity to share a few more Scrap-A-Palooza finishes.  All of these beautiful quilts have been made using one of the previous month's patterns. Many of you have expressed you really enjoy seeing the different quilts made from the same patterns and I didn't want you to miss out on these!

Sandra over at Musings of a Menopausal Melon made this lovely woven picnic quilt using the pattern we played with in April. You can read more about it and check out her beautiful photos here. 











Alycia at Alycia Quilts quilted up this wonderful quilt she made using the pattern we played with in March.

Check out the fun quilting she put on it and the promotion she is running on quilting until the end of June.

And Sandra also collected up some of her christmas scraps and made this festive quilt for her adorable grandson.  She used the pattern from February for her inspiration.

As soon as I saw Alycia's name, I knew exactly what I was going to send to her.  I pulled some red and blue fabrics from my coveted Robert Kaufman Quilter's Linen collection and a  fun stripe from Red Rooster's Quilts of Valor collection. 

As sewing on a binding is not her favorite part of a quilt, she might even be able to use one of these for the binding on the quilt featured above.

Scrap-A-Palooza! Quilt #4 Finish (Part Three)

Here it is the last day of April so it is time to share the finished scrap quilt for this month.  This quilt was so quick and easy, I had a hard time restraining myself from making another one!

 

Before I share pictures, I want to remind everyone that links to this quilt and all the scrap quilts from previous months can be found on the Scrap-A-Palooza quilt gallery tab above.  If you have scraps, I am sure you will find lots of inspiration on how to use them!

In Part One, fabrics were chosen and cut. 


I used some squares I had cut for a project I had abandoned.  I was elated to finally get them off my cutting table and into a quilt.

The squares were laid out on a design wall in Part Two.  First stitched into rows then sewn into a finished top.

This top came together very quickly.  I will definitely be making more of these in the future.

It is now all quilted up and ready for use.

For the quilting, I just did some straight line quilting in the ribbons.  This really helped direct the eye to the woven effect.  In the backgrounds, I did a crazy fill I call "Bad Hair Day".


The result is a very fun and playful quilt!

Small Lap Quilt

Size: 52 x 52"

Fabric: Tone on Tone orange and gray fabrics (a few prints also contained white - which was the color used as the background).  Good contrast on fabrics is crucial so get the woven effect.

Total Pieces: 169 4.5"squares (60 gray, 60 orange, 49 white)

  Background Fabric Used: approx 3/4 yard

 

Sandra over at Musings of a Menopausal Melon is busily cutting her squares to start her quilt. These pinks and green are perfect for spring!

Scrap-A-Palooza! Quilt #4 Part One

It is the start of a new month so that means another scrap quilt!  

Yep!  It is time to get on my party hat and start another Scrap-A-Palooza quilt.  

The inspiration for this quilt came about as I was writing my post for Part Three of last month's quilt.  As I was showing some possible layouts for the Color Block quilt, we discussed possibly setting up the blocks to appear to be weaving in and out of each other.  (I also shared you this quilt that I had done a number of years ago.)

Well, this got me thinking about a stack of cut squares that have been living on my coffee table for a really long time.

I had cut these 4 1/2" squares for a quilt I have been meaning to make but I now want to make in different fabrics.  These squares were cut from leftover fabrics from a couple of previous quilts and I have been wanting to find them a home.

The thought of weaving colors and the need to get these fabrics out of my livingroom gave me an idea.  So...

My vision for this month's quilt is to make a simple patchwork quilt where two colors are woven together.

 If you haven't saved your scraps for long, this project might be a bit difficult to make.  You need to pick two colors with a lot of contrast to them and have enough scraps of each color to cut enough blocks to make a quilt.

I went with 4 1/2" squares as that is the size I already had cut.  You can certainly adjust the size but I would not go too much smaller.  We will be adding a background color like the quilt at the top of the post.  I will be going with white again as I have a nice stock of it in my stash.

How many squares should you cut?  That will depend on how big of a quilt you want.  Once you know what size you will be cutting your squares, figure out a width and length that is divisible by the finished size of that square (Note: it will need to be an odd number).  My finished size is 4" and I want about a 50" square quilt.  13 rows by 13 columns will get me to a 52" quilt.

Now just multiply your number of rows times the number of columns and divide by three.  That is about the number of squares you will need of for each color.  

So for a quilt like mine, you will need about 57 squares of each color.

In previous months, there have been 4 posts on each of the quilts but this month, we will only be needing three.  If this quilt doesn't sound like it fits the scraps you have on hand, remember, you can always look at the Scrap-A-Palooza gallery page for other scrappy inspiration.
