A Bee Happy Finish

 Back in early November, I shared a quick project I was making for a neighbor who wanted a gift for a friend who keeps bees.

She wanted me to keep it simple and relatively small.  I pulled out a panel I had that was filled with some fun bee panels and she picked a couple she liked.

I then went to my scraps and found some coordinating bits that I cut to 2.5" square.

I found a nice gray fabric for the backing and quilted it in a grid in a serpentine stitch.  I used a black fabric for the binding to match the frames around the panels.

My neighbor loved it and has already taken delivery of it.  I am glad I was able to use some of my exisitng stash to make something special for someone.

I know a few readers said they have the same panel.  I still have quite a bit of it left and may make a few more like this in the future.  This was definitely a quick and rewarding little project!

Low Hanging Fruit

 In my efforts to pare down my project list, I decided to see what items I could complete quickly.  Early this year I cut up a bunch of fabric to make some little gifts.  

This was definitely some low hanging fruit and is now crossed off the list!

I finished up these eight little tissue holders.

I use the free pattern over at Two Brown Birds.  They really take no time at all to make and they are nice to have around for gifts.

I think I will probably make a few more once the holidays get closer.  

They can easily be made from larger scrap pieces!

Now off to finish the next project on the list...I am on a roll!

It's 2021! Some Year-end Gifts

 Happy 2021!  Hopefully we all see nothing but improvements this year.

(I stayed up past midnight just to be sure 2020 left!)

Most of my items have been gifted so I can share some of the things I made.  I found a really easy travel Kleenex cover tutorial over at two brown birds.  I have been wanting to make some of these for quite some time.  They are super easy!

I made quite a few more but I always forget to take photos until I have things already wrapped up and in their shipping packages.  Every. Darn. Time.

I also made a few of these jar openers.  I had made myself one months ago and find they are really nice to have around.  They certainly give you a lot more grip and I had all of the supplies around my house.  I used the tutorial over at Happiest Camper.

Remember all these pixel blocks I was making from 1.5" squares?  Well I was making a pixel quilt for a friend's birthday.  She just bought a new house with a dedicated sewing room.  I thought she needed a wall-hanging.

She is an Anthropologist so skulls are a favorite of hers.  This wall-hanging is about 25" by 36" and I realized a big error as I was hand sewing on the binding.  The section across the eyes got flipped upside down  so now it looks like an alien with a hole between its eyes.  Most quilters would be upset by this discovery but I just laughed...somehow I think she will love it more!

I also made quite a few of the microwaveable bowls and some cloth napkins.  They were all sent out pretty early and there are no photos.  But they are just like ones I have done in the past.  I make my napkins with the same mitered corners I used on this tablecloth tutorial.

I took life nice and easy almost the entire month of December.  So not only did I leisurely make a bunch of gifts, I also finished quite a few quilt tops.  

So I will have quite a few finishes to share in January.

I wish all of you a joyous New Year.  I really do appreciate your support and look forward to sharing lots of new projects in 2021.  So much more I want to make!

More Holiday Making

Is there something that intimidates you?  For me, it is zippers!

I have been wanting to make some Sew Together Bags for years.  But whenever I thought about sewing in FOUR zippers, I chickened out.

Well look at these!  I have already made two and I have the fabric and the supplies all pulled for two more.  Again, I didn't plan very well on colors because I have to trade the thread color out for each bag.  But I am really pleased with how they are turning out.

I don't know why zippers scare me so much.  I had no problem at all making these.  I will admit, I used a bunch of zippers I already had on hand so the main zipper isn't as long as they suggest.  So I did have to modify the pattern a bit to make them work.  Also, the bags don't open as wide as designed but I doubt the recipients will even know that.

Some Santa Sewing

I have been busy in my sewing room sewing lots of holiday gifts for friends and family.  I thought I would start sharing a few with links to the patterns/tutorials if you want some last minute ideas.

I can only reveal those gifts that I have already gifted, shipped, or know that the recipients don't read my blog.  I will share more in the coming weeks!

Here are a couple of the microwave bowl cozies I made.  I use this tutorial as a guide.

They can take a bit to make - especially if you make just one at a time.  There is top stitching so thread color becomes an issue.  Of course all of my fabric choices means I can only make two at a time.  But they are a great way to use up some of your stash.

Smart people would choose fabrics that the same color thread can be used and make them in a production line.  You could probably make quite a few in an afternoon!

Warning - you just really want to be sure and use microwavable batting.  

I used Pellon Wrap N Zap.

These bowl cozies are always a hit.  It is one of those gifts that people don't know they need until they get them and find out just how nice they are!
