Another Quilt from the Stash

I am still working on sewing up some of my really old stash pieces.

I had a one yard cut of an older Laurel Burch fish border fabric that I thought I would turn into something fun.  I pulled a bunch of bright scraps and cut them into 2.5" squares to use with it.

I had a really limited amount of the fish fabric so I carefully fussy cut it into 6.5' and 4.5" strips.  Then I added the scrappy squares to make these two 8" block designs.

To assemble the quilt top, I used the same concept as one of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts.  This design is one of my favorites and it worked perfectly for the fish border print.

It is really a bright and happy quilt top - these sun-reflecting photos do not do it justice.

It finished up at about 40" square.

 For the quilting, I used a sapphire blue thread and quilted in some swirls.  The backing is the same stripe as the RSC quilt I just finished.  There was just enough leftover for this little beauty.

I considered a bright blue or a purple solid for the binding and decided to go with the purple.  I thought it framed the quilt better.

I have a few more stash pieces I have pulled to see if I can get inspired to sew them up.  But I got side-tracked by some scraps...

So there should be more finishes in the near future!

Some Stash Additions

It has been so long since I purchased any fabric!

But it seems I went a little crazy last week and bought quite a few items to add to my stash.

My favorite store in Corvallis Oregon will be closing this summer.  I am really bummed about it.  The ladies who run it are retiring so I really do wish them the best.  I thought I would give them a good send off by stocking my stash with a few items one can always use.  I bought some large cuts of these lovely crossweaves.  I always have lots of uses for these!

 I also saw a bunch of low volume fabrics in their sale area.  My stash of these types of fabrics needed some variation added so I was happy to include these in my purchase.

Later that evening, I presented a Trunk Show in a nearby town and the guild there had a huge bin of older crossweave plaids they were selling for just $2 a yard.  I really wanted the whole tub but just made these purchases before the meeting.

Okay, so after the meeting, I went back a second time and bought more.  You just can't find these anymore and I just love to see them in my scrappy quilts.  Or maybe they will become a quilt all  by themselves.  If they hadn't packed up so quickly, I would have probably gone back a third time!

So between my new stash additions and the recent bag of scraps from a friend, the activity in my sewing room has risen to a frenzied level.  There is a lot of things going on in there that I will certainly be sharing in the very near future!

Oh Scrap! : Something Old and Something New

During a sew day with a friend, I finished up the last of my bowtie blocks made from Kaffe Fassett scraps.

I now have a total of 110 eight inch blocks ready to lay out.  The last few blocks, I actually had to cut from my stash fabric.  I don't want any duplicate prints in the quilt and I haven't any more unique scraps large enough for the blocks.

And while I was at my friend's house, she let me purge her scrap bins that were overflowing.  She also gave me a baggie of some bonus triangles - which I have been turning into these adorable little pinwheels.  I don't keep my own triangle trimmings but there is just something about the scraps from others that makes them fun to have!

I also received a number of other items that are quickly turning into finished quilt tops.  I should be sharing many of them soon!
