A Finish from the Scrap Bag

A few weeks back, I was gifted a whole bunch of scraps.  Yes, I was in heaven!

As I spent some time sorting them into piles of colors and cut sizes, I noticed that there were a number of 2.5" x 4.5" bits all from the same fabric collection.  They were obviously leftover from a quilt long finished.

I was so excited that I had pieces that didn't require any cutting (my least favorite part of the process) that I forgot to take any work in progress photos.  I immediately just started pairing up fabrics and making these 8-patch blocks.

I was only able to make 9 blocks with the pieces I had so I used a couple solids to add frames that made the quilt a bit bigger.

This cute little quilt is only about 36" square but it is packed full of color.

I didn't have quite enough of the correct prints so the block in the center has an odd yellow fabric.  I always find things like this charming in antique quilts so I thought it deserved a place front and center!  So far, no one who has seen the quilt has even noticed.

I had this orange, yellow and green striped fabric in my stash that went really well - I even had just enough to also use it as the binding.

I am really enjoying these quick baby quilts.  I have three more tops made from the same scrap bag just waiting to be quilted.  More to share soon!

Flags for Sue

I am a bit behind in my blog reading but I noticed this morning that Alycia (You might know her as Quitygirl) is putting a call out for flag blocks.  One of her Quilts of Valor volunteers has passed and it sure sounds like she had a giving heart.

I have always held generous people in high regard and I think it is so fitting to honor Sue (and her family) by making lots of QOV Flag quilts in her memory.

I have always wanted to make some of these blocks.  You can find the pattern here.  These blocks are really easy and quick.  They can be made with prints or solids or even scrappy - you just want to get the color placement correct.

In fact, I was up to four finished blocks in no time at all.  I hope you join me in making some of these blocks to honor a quilter that gave from the heart.

Oh Scrap! : Red

July is already here and it is time to get out the red scraps and sew some blocks for my newest Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.

I recently finished all the blocks for my previous RSC quilts so I am starting on two new quilts.  I will do just one block a month of the zigzag block and two to three of the quarter log blocks.  

They both sew up very quickly!

I already have five total now of these quarter log beauties.  The blocks will finish at 10" and I will set them on point. This quilt is going to be very bright when it is finished.

These blocks will be made into a donation quilt.  I am planning on having blocks in 10 different colors but I haven't settled on a size yet.  I will need to go back and make a second block in some of the colors once I make a decision.

Next, I need to finish up my Squared Away sampler blocks and I will have all of my red sewing completed!
