I am really enjoying the Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks I am currently working on.
This week I decided to make another zigzag block for September in black.
I can always find lots of scraps for these blocks!
As for my garden blocks, I knew the color blue was going to be a challenge. Of course a row of four plump blueberries were made. Blue is actually in the name of the fruit (and one of my garden favorites)!
I went out and wandered around my own gardens to see what else fell under the "blue" category and I decided a birdhouse needed to be on the quilt. This is a giant block at 12 x 30" but I only had one bird in all my stash so I had to build the house to it's scale.
I have one more blue block to make but I am still in the pondering mode trying to figure out how to sew it. I think I finally have an idea and I just need time to try it out. Hopefully I will have it to share next week.
What have you been doing with your scraps?

I also need to announce that the up coming weekend (September 13th through September 15th) I will be hosting this year's Fall Quilty Adoption event. (Here is a link to the Spring event if you want to see what it is all about.) I will be opening the linkup Thursday morning and it will run until the end of the day Saturday. So that gives you a few days to dig through your sewing room to see if you have anything you would like to put up for adoption.
It is an easy way to cross something off your UFO list :)

Oh, that birdhouse is a fun idea! I'm looking forward to seeing this quilt all together!
I love the birdhouse, too! And you had a nuthatch in fabric - they are such fun little birds. We saw them all the time here!
Beautiful blue blocks (and black too!). Cute bluberries, and I love this birdhouse! Is it a Charley Harper bird ? So cute!
Whew! At first I thought the RSC color for this month was black! Not that black isn't a great color, but blue is the color of our birthstone! I love the photo of the bird houses! What a gorgeous garden you have. Your giant block fits perfectly among the houses!
Love your birdhouses, the fabric and the wooden ones. Gorgeous picture. Your quilt is getting more and more interesting each week. Can't wait to see it all together. Enjoy! ;^)
Your blueberry blocks look yummy! And I adore your birdhouse.
Love your birdhouse block! And the inspiration you had to develop it. Perfect!
Oh, gosh...I love your weathered birdhouses. Great idea to make one in fabric. It's so cute. And I wondered if your blue fruit would be blueberries and then wondered how you were going to make them. Such fruity fun!
Those blueberries look very tasty, and the lonely bird must be so happy to have a home at last.
Great birdhouse! And that looks like a Charlie Harper bird? His animals are so neat.
Love that birdhouse! Of course you need a birdhouse in your garden of fruit! Fantastic idea, and I really like the scale. After all, bird houses are bigger than strawberries.
I cant wait to see what you put with the awesome birdhouse. Thank you for the linky party.
The birdhouse was definitely my favorite! So cute!
Lots of fun scrappy blocks, but the birdhouse is definitely my favorite.
Love the birdhouse block and the collection in your garden!
