Something old into something new!

I have been wanting to make a scrappy medallion quilt for a number of years now.  As I was doing a bit of project organization, I got to thinking that I could probably combine a few WIPs and start putting one together.

With just one quilt, I can cross another bucket list quilt off the lineup and finish two WIPs!

Remember these pretty  Basket Weave Star blocks I was paper piecing?

I thought they paired nicely with some needle turned applique blocks I made about a decade ago.
(I think it is time to admit I will not be turning them into the queen size quilt I had originally planned.)

Maybe use the applique as the center medallion?

Or I can use the Basket Weave Stars in the center and use the floral blocks as one of the outside borders.  Hmm....

I think I will leave them up on my design wall for a bit and see what happens.
But a medallion quilt will be the next project off my quilty bucket list.  Once I decide where I am starting, I will start sharing my progress!

I love the look of the last picture. What a great idea to combine the two projects. It gives me hope that some of my Ufos might get finished.

This is going to be a beauty, whichever way you decide to go with it!

Oh my goodness! That last picture is stunning! The design is so balanced that it looks like these pieces were made for each other! No one would believe they are two separate projects. I can't wait to watch your progress!!!

I love medallion quilts and now you've inspired me to use up some pieces from my "parts department" drawer.

I love what you're doing here and who'd have thought those 2 WIPs would work together. I love the strong lines of the basket weave and how they're softened by the floral blocks, yet the florals are strong enough to hold their own entirely. My favourite option is with the basket weave in the centre but I think you're absolutely right to let it sit on the design wall for a while and simmer, you never know when inspiration will strike. Thanks so much for linking up at Sew Cute Tuesday today - Chris (guest host) @madebyChrissieD :D

Very cool! If you are like me you'll probably keep staring at them and come up with yet, another layout. THey look great together though. ;)

It as if they were meant to be together - great look. I like the second layout, but as you keep looking and playing I am sure more will evolve.

I love that you have pieces and parts of different projects that could go together so well! Such a good idea to use them up to make something beautiful.

I have the basket weave pattern on my bucket list...you know, just one of hundreds! I love how you just seemingly throw together these quilts!

They look like they were planned to be used together. I like both but think the second is my favorite. But I am sure either decision will be wonderful. Can't wait to see which you go with.

I love how you are designing possible layouts with what you made in the past. Just lovely. I like both photos, but the last one is especially pretty. your colors are perfect no matter which way you choose.

Those blocks all go together perfectly! And I love the first layout best. But can't wait to see how you decide to put it together. Looking fabulous!

Oh gosh, I'm glad you're the one who has to decide! At first I liked the first one, until I saw the second one, and then I couldn't decide between the two!! And I'm sure that's your dilemma as well . . .

Interesting how you can take design a quilt with new blocks and past blocks made and put them together to make a lovely looking quilt. Love the center design. Will be interesting to see the end result.

This is such a great idea. I may have to look through my blocks to see if I can do something like that. Thanks for the inspiration.
