Preparing for Summer - OMG Finish

At the beginning of May, I shared a photo of another older stash fabric pull that I was hoping to turn into something by the end of the month.  Well, one of my readers suggested place mats and another suggested a tablecloth for maybe outdoors.  That got me thinking...

My outdoor table could really use a square table topper for the summer.  (Due to the downpour outside, I have to share indoor photos.)  I came up with a simple block that was quick to sew.  Unfortunately, in my efforts to use up old fabrics, I didn't get enough contrast in the blocks.  But to use outside for a season or two, it will be just fine!

I even made me up a quick matching napkin holder.
I cobbled it together with some fusible fleece, a bit of top stitching and a few buttons.

It was really just an excuse to use up more of this olive fabric....I think I still have a couple yards left!

A bit disappointed with this finish but it will still get lots of use!  The good news is I won't be upset when the margaritas and salsa get spilled.

This finish does fulfill my One Monthly Goal for May.  A big thanks to Heidi at Red Letter Quilts for hosting the event!

There's NOTHING wrong with a good low-contrast quilt from time to time!! They can be quite soothing. I think your table topper and napkin "basket" turned out GREAT!!

I love how the buttons hold down the points on your napkin holder. It is a good thing to not completely love something meant to go by food. I may be guilty of telling my boys they can't use my only handmade placemat when they eat certain foods. ;)

I really like your mini and think it looks perfect for your outdoor table! Green is always fresh and outdoorsy to me! And what a great idea to make a napkin holder, too. I may have to borrow that idea!

Nothing to be disapointed about--these look perfect for outside!

It does look like a perfect summery colour - and if you don't find if things get spilled on it then that's all to the good - my 'favourite' outdoor quilt is one I'm not too bothered about so I don't mind it if gets a bit muddy!

That napkin holder is just the cutest Cyndy! The whole set is really nice and you'll get a lot of use from it, so that's a win/win!

Oh those are really nice! I love the napkin holder--it's so cute and useful! With a couple of yards, you could make a few throw pillows to coordinate with these pieces and spread them around the patio. The whole place would be really pretty and coordinated. Of course, it's easy to tell someone else what she could do...I don't have to do the heavy lifting! (My hubby's famous words.) Enjoy the table topper and napkin holder!

Use your leftover fabric to make cloth napkins and save a tree. Win, win!

I like both your items. Can't go wrong when using green.

The napkin holder is awesome. There may not be a lot of contrast, but it's a great finish.

Perfect timing with this finish, we have been eating outside quite a bit lately! The low contrast is very pretty and will look great with the table setting. Those button corners are cute!
