More Holiday TableRunners

With Thanksgiving in the past, it is now time to seriously start thinking about Christmas.

Thankfully, I started thinking about Christmas about a month ago and made up a bunch of holiday table runners from some scraps a friend had gifted me.

I already shared a couple in this post...

Since then, I finished sewing on the bindings of three more.
This first one is another runner made using my Rejoice pattern.

This one was actually gifted back to my "scrap dealer".

Most of the scraps she shared were already cut into squares.  Here is one I made using the 3.5" size.  I also found a few HSTs in the amongst the scraps, so I made some fun pinwheels and added them in.

And finally, I made this one from some 4.5" squares.

I think this one might be my favorite.  The prints are more winter themed, so I think you could leave it out into January if you wanted to.

Here are all five of them together.  This will cross off a few names on my gift list!

Check it out!  The Fat Quarter Shop is having a 20% off Storewide sale.

It ends Saturday night so don't wait!

With time to Spare

I can't believe it...I am actually thinking ahead this holiday season.  I realized I needed a few little holiday gifts so I raided a friend's stash and decided to make a couple table runners.

For this one, I used my Rejoice Table Runner pattern.  It is quick and easy and uses a single width of fabric strip for each letter.

I found this fun portrait fabric for the backing.  It definitely adds whimsy to the quilt.

While I was their "shopping" my friend's stash, she kept offering me various scraps.  One of the offerings I couldn't resist was a stack of 3.5" squares.

There were super easy to turn into a fun patchwork runner.

There were just enough dark green squares to create the pattern I came up with.  The rest of the squares a certainly a mish mash of fun holiday prints.

A fun red print for the backing and a green woven for the binding.

I will have two or three more runners to shar in the near future.  Right now, I am sewing on their bindings and hope to finish them soon!

Have you started your holiday sewing yet?

Great prices for some colorful background fabrics!

From a Few Scraps

It doesn't take much to distract me.

One of my clients brought me a handful of scraps from a quilt she brought me to quilt for her.

Did I have a use for them?  What a silly question!

In no time at all, I created this fun tablerunner.

I pretty much kept the pieces the size she gave them to me.

The colors in the horse fabric in the center is amazing.  I used a dark blue peppered cotton that I have been hoarding for quite some time to frame all those lovely fabrics.

I love all those oranges, purples and pinks.

One of the great things about small projects like this is you always have something in your stash for the backing.

Now that I found a home for those scraps, I can get back to working on all the other scrap projects in my sewing room.

We did have one really beautiful day that I was able to get outside.  But now I think we have rain in the forecast for over a week.  It will be a good time to stay indoors and sew!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

A UFO Finish

I have said it in previous years, but truly, this year I am focused on finishing some old UFOs.

I am joining forces with a friend who has the same goal so we are supporting each other.

My project for February was to make something with these blocks.  I either needed to make more and make a quilt....

Or I initially thought about combining them with these old blocks into a wall hanging.

Once I thought about it, I decided to just turn these blocks into a large table runner.

When I started analyzing the project, there were a few things that were quite clear....

1. I did NOT want to make more blocks.
2. I did not need a wall hanging and I wasn't sure it was something that I could sell.
3. I put so much work into these, I couldn't just abandon the project.
4. I need to just keep it simple!

It measures 19 x 62" long.  I would love to keep it but it is larger than any table I own.
So it will be going into my Etsy shop and hopefully find a new home soon.

I am just happy I crossed these blocks off my list.

I found fabric for the borders, backing and binding in my stash.
I am super pleased with how it turned out.

So far I have finished UFOs in January and February.  I am thinking hard about abandoning my March project and replacing it with something else on my list.  Hmmmm...or maybe something new!

Before I go, I just want to remind everyone that you can still buy the Pre-Cut Pattern Bundle.  All ten of the above patterns for $19.  You can read more about it on this post.

Or buy it through the button below.

I appreciate you purchasing your Precut Pattern Bundle through my site.

Have a great weekend!

Geese Migration Table Runner

When I originally started working on my Geese Migration quilt, I had a few different layout ideas.   For the magazine publication, I ended up using an on-point design.  But one of the designs I considered was a staggered layout.

When I teach this class, I like to talk about some optional layouts, so I have been wanting to make a small sample of this layout for visual purposes.

So I whipped up four blocks and made a tablerunner.

I set the blocks in a nice gray and backed it with a fun floral that has been in my stash for years.

I always have so much fun finding just the perfect scrap for these blocks.  This runner is now over at The Stitchin' Post in Sisters Oregon advertising my upcoming class in October.  I think there is still space if you want to sign up!

Checked off the list - Finally

I have had the task of finishing up some table runners for my sister for a really long time.  My intentions are always good but I easily get distracted.

I finally finished the last one on the list.
This started as a block for a Fat Quarter Shop quilt along.  I didn't want the block to go to waste so I finished it up this week by adding the checkerboards to the sides.

It has been gray and rainy so photos are a bit difficult.  The colors are actually butterscotch and a dark plum.  Not my choices but I think she will like it.

So a total of five runners are now boxed up and ready to be delivered.  I am slowly checking off items on my UFO list - that is really making me happy!

Another thing that makes me happy is seeing that Connecting Threads is offering 20% off your entire order.  That includes sale items!  Time to buy more quilt backings!

The Tumbler Shape

One of my favorite dies for my AccuQuilt fabric cutter is the Tumbler shape.

You may remember this quilt I made with the shape back in 2017.  It was fun to play with values in black and white fabrics.

And this colorwash scrappy quilt I made back in 2016.  It is one of my all-time favorite quilts.

Well, I have been wanting to play with the shape again.  While waiting for inspiration to strike for a big project, I thought I would make something small.

I used my 3.5" tumbler die and some scraps to make this fun table runner.  This shape is so easy to sew together.

And with the die, all the alignment notches are right in the die so sewing is always accurate!

I put a fun crosshatch fabric on the back.  This is one of the colors of Sketched Lines from Connecting Threads.  It is one of my favorite backing fabrics right now!

I have both the 3.5" and the 6.5" Tumbler dies.  I need to decide on some scraps and start sewing!

Have a wonderful weekend!

A Quick Finish

Last April, one of my sisters came to visit me and asked if I would make her a tablerunner in spring colors.  I jumped at the request and immediately took her to my fabric stash so she could pick out some fabric/colors she liked.

She picked three Kaffe Fassett prints that were all similar colors and values.  Whenever I tried to add in some nice contrast colors, they were quickly vetoed.

So the fabric has sat in a pile!

I pondered these fabrics often trying to come up with a design.
It finally dawned on me that I just needed to keep it simple.  It was the prints she liked and really didn't want any piecing.

So for this side, I added in a tiny border detail that complimented the Kaffe Fassett dahlia print.

Then I used the Phillip Jacobs cabbage print she picked out on the back.  Now she can use whichever side she desires to display and enjoy these pretty prints.

And I have another corner cleared off of my cutting table!

Just in time for Valentine's Day

Did you see the little heart block I designed for the RSC Tiny Tuesday Sampler?

Even though I am not participating in the quilt-along, I did make a handful of heart blocks as I wrote the tutorial.  So I decided to use them in a quick little project.

I made five little hearts from a red chunk of fabric I had in my scrap bin.
I decided to scatter them across a fun little Valentine's Day table runner.

I think it turned out pretty cute and festive.

I had a fun red and white fabric for the backing and the plaid binding was left over from a previous project.  There was just enough so it was meant to be!

I know there are a few other quilters using my little heart block for some little projects -
I can't wait to see them!
