I am having far too much fun playing with all of these orphan blocks. First, there was the medallion quilt, then one using the Improv method. For my third quilt, I simply laid the blocks into rows set in a background fabric.
I think this one is so bright and playful. You can read more about how it came together in this post.
I used a print for all of the background. Choosing a directional print was probably not the wisest choice but I do like how it turned out.
It is hard to believe that everything besides the background came out of my little orphan block suitcase. Some of these bits fit together so perfectly, it was almost like it was always meant to be.
And the backing is just as playful! I was able to use up an older Laurel Burch fabric I have had for years and paired it with some leftover ombre blue fabric I had in my stash. You can really see my loopy quilting!
It has been so much fun seeing all the things other quilters are making with their orphan blocks. I am working on one more orphan block quilt that I hope to share on the last Friday of February. I will host a link up on that day so everyone can share their creative projects too. It is pretty amazing what can be made from these humble orphan blocks!

Great project! It does feel good to take leftovers and make something creative and fun.
Ahh, more good ideas!
Lovely work Cynthia. Congrats on another wonderful finish. ;^)
What a bright and graphic quilt. I was a little unsure at that last update, but I know not every thing appeals to every one. You've really worked wonders with your little orphan friends. Well done.
What a great use of scraps. It is so bright and active.
I really like this one! The way you used the background makes the blocks look like they are floating!
I love to see Orphan Block quilts and how the maker brought them all together. I really need to get my orphan blocks out and sew them into a top. It's like a free quilt. The Laurel Burch backing with the ombre is beautiful in itself. Thanks for sharing.
LOVE the pops of orange running through the quilt!! Totally brings it all together into a cohesive quilt. Nice work!
How fun! The blocks are so vibrant and colorful, I like the more subdued background you set them in. Congratulations on another fun finish!
I have enjoyed watching your progress with these blocks! Makes me want to check my drawers for my own left over blocks! Today's quilt is gorgeous!

This looks fantastic! I have so many orphan blocks, I really need to do this. Great job putting them together.
Another great idea for orphan blocks! Wonderful!
I love how you've made each of your orphan quilts look like they were actually planned quilts! Wonderful work!
Congratulations on another outstanding original finish. You have really done a great job using orphan blocks. I guess you need to write a book?

Good finish. I like the improv one the best. Love the scrappy look.
I LOVE watching these orphan blocks come together into something fun! It does look like it was planned that way all along!
Very bright and colorful! Those direction fabrics can be so fun in a quilt, but they are challenging to work with. Congrats on another fun orphan quilt finish.
This is a playful fun quilt! I just cannot believe it came from your bag of tricks...suitcase! It's really fun to see how you put these together!
I don't have that many orphan blocks, but I sure do like what you've done with yours, Cynthia. The backing on this one is a real eye-opener, and I love ! I think her fabrics are so unique and colorful, and stand on their own in a quilt. Thanks for sharing.
great Orphan Block quilt. I can definitely see one in my future!
xx, Carol
This is a fun one indeed!!
This quilt looks wonderful!! It looks like these blocks were meant to be together! Wonderful finish!!
That one is just adorable!!! The crayon totally brings it all together ;-)
This looks great all finished up. I love the loopy quilting. Did you mark rows or just go for it?
This is so fun! Great finish.
I love how the blocks jump (pun intended) off that light coloured sashing. You have a real eye for scale and colour. Thank you for your link to TGIFF.
