I love sewing up scrappy strip sets!
You can sew super fast and they go together so quickly!
This weekend I completed all 36 strip sets I need for the quilt along that crazy mom quilts is hosting. I made mine slightly larger - they measure 6 x 12. A lot of my strips are on the wide side and I didn't want to trim them down (which I felt would be necessary if I went with a smaller 4 x 8 rectangle).
I always find these dark fabrics are hard to use so I jumped at the chance with this quilt.
I think it will turn out pretty cool!
I think it will turn out pretty cool!
All that sewing on Saturday leaves me to play outside on Sunday. Thought I would share a few photos I took during a quick cruise through my gardens.
A few of my birdhouses (which usually have some residents but so far none this year.)
One of my shade gardens. These gardens mostly bloom in March but I love how lush and green they are all summer long. A soft mossy pathway meanders through them. You can just see it in the lower right. I love walking along it barefooted on hot days.
You never know who you will meet along the way.
On the other extreme, I also have a fairly big sedum/succulent garden. This one blooms usually all summer long.
But I am most excited right now about my edible gardens - my blueberry bushes are packed this year. Any day now, I will be munching on these lovelies!
My perennial english gardens are just getting ready to put on their show. Maybe I will share some photos of them later. With over 30 varieties of daylilies and lots of lavender, it smells amazing!

Looks like you've got a great start on your Crazy Mom quilt! The photos of your gardens are lots of fun to see! I love the bird houses. Growing your own blueberries - now I'm envious!
I like the dark strips, those spots of color from the prints on the black reminds me of an abstract painting. Beautiful gardens! It's so hot in Oklahoma in the summer it's hard to maintain much of anything unless it grows in the shade.
Your strips look great! String quilts are so great to use up all those bits of fabric that aren't good for anything else. Your gardens look great! I am impatient for tomatoes, myself. Those blueberries look amazing. Yum!
Hi Cynthia! Your garden looks beautiful and I love and miss blueberries. Dark colours are difficult for me too but you made great blocks! x Teje
Can't WAIT to see what you choose to pair with these dark strip sets for the June QAL!! I considered using my dark multi prints, but ended up going with a different plan.
love those bird houses
Those black strips are just magical. Wish I had such great scraps. And your garden is so lovely. Nothing beats a shade garden in the summer. I sure miss my WA ones. But today we have fluffy white clouds and brilliant blue sky.
Those blocks look yummy licorice allsorts. I enjoyed "walking" through your pretty garden. Enjoy the blueberries.
You have a beautiful garden!
Love your choice of the black prints for your strip sets. Can't wait to see the finished product. I am seriously considering joining in the fun, but haven't gotten any further than "seriously considering". Your gardens are beautiful, thanks for the view.
I love those strip sets! They are dark, but also very brilliant and bright! I have quite a collection of the same kinds of fabrics, multi-colored brights on a black background. It's always tempting to think, I want to do that, when I see something I can do with fabrics I have in my stash. So thanks for the inspiration - regardless of whether I ever get around to following up on it myself!
I always enjoy seeing your scrap projects. You make them look awesome!
I can't believe you do so much quilting and find time to have such a lovely garden too. Thanks for sharing the pics.
Yes, grouping the dark fabrics together or the fabrics that don't-play-well-with-others is the way to go!
You are inspiring me to take my the miscellaneous bag of scraps and play along. Maybe I can focus my attention to the Fab Four list I have going right now and add the misc. bag to the list and one is finished. Yeah, right, she added sarcastically!
Thanks for inspiring us.
Hi Cynthia,
Love your scrappy strip sets - I look forward to seeing the finished quilt! Your gardens are lovely, and those blueberries. YUM! Those make my mouth water just looking at them . . . ~smile~

Wow - you're fast! I'm doing the same QAL, using dark strips too. However, I've only made 12 strip sets so far. I see quite a few people posting about how quick these are to make. I'm not sure what my problem is, but I think they take forever! You've inspired me to get my rear moving and sew faster! :)
