Oh Scrap! : The Four Patch

Lately, each time I wander into my sewing room, I have been wanting some mindless, simple sewing that I can do for just a few minutes.  I really didn't want a project that I had to pull stacks of fabric and/or even stand at my cutting table.  So I pulled my box of 2.5" squares and decided to start sewing some 4 patches.

I started with scraps in blue and turquoise.  I found pairs of prints and solids that looked nice together and soon I had a few stacks I could start playing with.  As you can see from the creases, many of the solids are leftover binding bits.

I have no idea what these little bits will become.  I kind of like this color wash effect but maybe once I get a rainbow of colors, I might do something different.  It is going to take a lot of blocks to have enough for a quilt.  So I will just start collecting these in one of my newly emptied project boxes and worry about the layout once it is filled.

Hmmm...I was supposed to be finishing projects - not starting new ones!

I know exactly what you mean about sometimes you need some mindless piecing to do! Your four patches look so fun the way you have them laid out - enjoy!

Who doesn't need loose parts? They are so handy when you need a filler between blocks. Enjoy the mindless sewing. ;^)

Looks like the start of a great scrappy project. Mindless sewing is sometimes needed to "cleanse the palette" as they say before you tackle some of those UFOs. Happy stitching this week.

Funny how that happens sometimes!! Is it REALLY a new project if we are just cleaning up bits?? I like to think not.

Ah, but you are finishing up what you started when you cut the 2 1/2-inch squares. (At your service, any time you need a rationalization)

Love the gradient colors of the four patch together.
The best part of quilting is just sit, sew and have fun.

Now I know what to do with all those squares that I was playing with and put away again. Thanks for the idea.

I love colorwash effects, and this would be a fantastic start. But it's fun to keep on piecing and see what turns out!

Four patches are my favorite form of "mindless" sewing. There is always something they can be turned into. Nice selection of blues.

Mindless sewing is what we all need! I linked and posted thatfabricfeeling.com here about my crumb blocks this week. Needless to say, I've produced quite a bit this past week including string blocks and crumbs. Now to get them all quilted and to relax a bit. Truth be told, I've got my eye on some 9 patch blocks now that you've reminded me of some UFO's on my desk.

So much to look at in the linky today!
I rarely buy fabric so almost everything I make is from scraps. Most of those scraps being given to me when someone cleans out their sewing room.
I am so blessed by the people who think of me to give their extra to!
