A Scrappy Finish

It is nice to finally see some finishes around here!
They have been few and far between lately....

This scrappy quilt will probably not win any awards in any quilt show but it will have the important job of bringing comfort to a child in a challenging situation.

It measures about 50 x 60 so it is a great size for an older child.

This quilt was made from leftover binding bits and a few orphan blocks.  It was a great project for when I needed some mindless sewing.  (You can read how I make these quilts here.)  While it was tempting at times to want to pull from my stash to make the blocks, I was successful at using only what I had in my 2.5" strip bin.

I can say there even was a nice dent made in my scrap bin!
How often does one get to say that :)

It is a bit hard to see but I used the piecing as markings for the quilting.
I freehand quilted big "hills" across the quilt.

I had the perfect sized tan piece for the backing.  And a gray solid was used for the binding.

My goal is to donate about eight quilts to various organizations this year.  This one is already number five so I am well on my way.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Congrats on just pulling fabrics from your scrap bins fro this quilt! I really like the blocks that are on point - it breaks up the color scheme and pattern and creates a great effect!

It looks awesome Cynthia. What a great feeling to have your scrap bin looking empty. Great progress on your goal too, over halfway already. Hugs, Clare.

Scrappy quilts like that are always my favorite! I like how the nine patches on point surprise you every now and then. A great quilt for a kid!

A great plan to use a limited set of fabrics. It was only at second glance I notices your on-point nine-patches and outlined blocks which add movement to your quilt. Congratulations on a beautiful finish that will help a child in crisis.

Congrats on a quilt with a lot of scrappy fun. Even better, it made a dent in the scrap bin. Definitely a win/win.
