Oh Scrap! : Slab Blocks

I am still slowly working on my postage stamp quilt, but while I have my scrap color bins out, I decided I needed to start another scrap project.

I found I had a number of 1.5" squares left over in red (from my postage stamp) and I still had a lot of small bits still in the red bin.

I decided to make some slab blocks that measure 6.5" x 9.5".
I don't really have a firm plan on how I am going to use these but I thought a rectangular shape would give me more to play with.

I already whipped out ten blocks this weekend.  Soon I will move onto some pink blocks.  I think for this quilt, I am going to stay on the warm side of the rainbow spectrum.

But we all know I could change my mind as the quilt evolves!

So tell me, what are you sewing with your scraps?

*********************************************************

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!

I've been thinking it's time for me to make some scrap slabs just like you're doing. I sure have enough bits and pieces in the bins to do that! I'll be interested to see what yours develop into! Enjoy your Sunday!

love those blocks. I will be working on the binding for my scrappy fall harvest quilt - one and a half sides of binding left to stitch and then it can go in the wash

While you have the scrap bins out you might as well, right?! These look promising and I know you will or already have a plan for them! I get in moods where I have to use all my bits and pieces from previous projects. Which is where I'm at right now!

Such beautiful blocks you made. I'm making some scrappy blocks too. Will post on my blog in a couple of days.

I am using my big scraps to make backings for small wallhangings! I figure I would prefer to just use zip the remaining fabric instead of putting it back in the bins!

Love your Scrap bocks, especially in rectangles. A warm quilt would be really fun.

A little distraction in the sewing room can be a GOOD thing. Have fun with those new blocks!!

I've been working with my little crumbs and bits, too, but all in green instead of red. Ended up with a big enough piece to make into a quilted basket to hold green scraps. That's pretty meta, I think :)

I'm working on Secret Santa mystery quilt with Temecula Quilt Shop. Using up a bit of scraps for it. Looking forward to seeing the finish! Love your rectangles. You could partial seam them around a square. I saw that recently and thought, "WOW!"

Nothing...absolutely nothing! My scraps are just piling up and I haven't had time to do anything with them yet. But I sure love seeing what you make with yours. :) Slab blocks are a great idea. Thanks for linking to MCM!

Love this new project with the slab blocks - a great idea to go rectangular rather than square.
