Oh Scrap! : Focussing on some Finishes

I feel like I haven't had a finish in a really long time.  I find myself juggling a number of projects each month and don't feel like I am making much progress.  So I feel think it is time to focus on a few and get a few projects to the finish line.

A quick and easy finish is the baby quilt I just started.  This week I finished cutting all the scrappy squares and put it up on my design wall.  Now all I have to do is start sewing!

I also decided to direct some attention to finishing up my Well Suited RSC quilt.  (Well Suited is one of my Scrap Mixology pattern modules.)  I dug through all of my scrap bins this week and pulled all the solid colors I haven't used yet.  I sewed up eight more blocks this week but ran out of white on white fabric so I ordered a bunch through Connecting Threads.  Eight yards is already headed my way!

I moved all of my finished blocks into my sewing room.  I have 34 blocks completed and an additional 14 blocks cut out and just waiting to be sewn.  I think that will leave 15 blocks to finish up once my fabric order arrives.  Lots of older scraps are going into this one!

I am still looking at a few of my other unfinished projects to see if there is something else I am in the mood to finish.  Right now I have 22 WIPs to choose from!  Yikes!!

I am curious, how many projects do you juggle at a time?

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

I have MANY, many UFOs, but tend to only work on a few at a time when working toward gathering enough blocks for a project. When I get down to the finishing, I'm typically choosing the "low hanging fruit" and completing one project at a time.

How many projects at a time? Is LOTS an answer? Just looking around the room, there are 10 RSC projects and at least 6 others. This doesn't count the flimsies in the closet. Yikes!

Right now, I have 2 UFOs; both waiting to be quilted. But I just saw a new border technique that my oldest UFO just needs so will be resewing that border. Glad it still a UFO!!!

I lost the list.
And if I open the ufo's bag I am afraid I won't be able to close it again...
There are 4 projects I am slowly working this year for RSC.
There are several filmsy waiting to be quilted.

I have to admit, I'm afraid to count how many projects I'm juggling right now! 😉 I bet it's at least 10, all in various stages from still making blocks to needing the binding put on. At least we are never bored! I love your fabric choices for the baby quilt - it's going to be cute!

I love your baby quilt! It really spoke to my heart. I like the other projects you shared as well. As for how many projects I have in various stages. . .well, I don't count them! I am currently making progress on six projects. Although, that number could go up later today! I wouldn't want to be bored. . .ha!

I just work on one project at a time. I'm weird, I guess. :-)

Oh, I do love the baby quilt you are working on. As far as number of projects I work on at a time, 1 - 3 projects going is really typical for me. More than that and I try to buckle down and finish something. That said, my "coming next" list is never short.

Great question. I tend to prep blocks for several quilts at a time. I don't like to cut out all the blocks for a quilt at one time. (Well unless it is a smaller quilt or bigger blocks.) I have several leader ender projects I'm using for my main projects. And one or two main projects going now. However, I have a lot of quilts waiting for quilting. I figure it takes less space to store a top then a quilt so I'll quilt a top when I have a need or when I have backing fabric. (I never have enough backing fabric or so it seems!)

You've got me beat with your 22 WIP's. I'm thinking around 10 right now. I usually buy my batting in the States, it's so much more expensive here in Canada. The batting dilemma is causing the backlog.... that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol

The baby quilt is going to be adorable, and I love your Well Suited blocks!
I have been juggling 5-6 projects at a time for most of this year, the majority of them as part of the RSC. I need to cut back to fewer next year.

I love that you have 22 projects in the pipeline just now! I am focusing on gathering all mine into one or two locations (so far they're in 3... or maybe 4??), and I might not count so as not to feel overwhelmed! I jump around a lot, but move forward always, and then a month comes when a whole bunch of stuff gets finished - it's a thrill!! I sew a lot of handbags, totes, pouches so I have a few of those in the to-do pile, and when I need a quicker finish (for motivation!) I usually do one of those. Ah, the creative life!

I have parts cut and into baggies for some stars, a Tumbler quilt that is partially sewn into rows + more tumblers to add, Polka dot 9-patch scrappy, a couple of mini's that I need to layer-baste and hand quilt, Christmas panel that I'm adding blocks around, ... lots of things that got put on a back burner when I needed surgery. Then it got unbearably hot here. Cooling off now and healing, so I think I'll get back to working on them and try not to start something new.

These are nice projects you've got going. Love the colors in the baby quilt!
I have too many things going on anti has made me stall out. I need to pick one and move it forward so I feel more like I am making progress than just creating bits and pieces. Plus I have made some clothes lately which is sewing but not quilting progress. :-)

These are looking good!! I sometimes feel like I need a New Years in the middle of the year so I re-set my goals and get back on track - I am glad you were able to get back on track!
