Oh Scrap! : A Scrap Explosion

It appears that scraps have exploded all over my house.

I brought home a bunch of Christmas scraps from a friend's house to make some holiday gifts - they are still needing to be sorted.  They have taken up residence on my dining room table for now.

I was also gifted (from another friend) a giant garbage bag filled to the brim with all sorts of yardage and fabric scraps.  I have about half of it sorted and put away.  The rest of it is in piles all over my living room floor.

I am still sewing away on this scrappy quilt top.  I really have just one more section to fill in and then I can sew up all the sections.  It is actually about 50 x 60" right now.

The remaining scraps for this project are all piled in the middle of my sewing room floor.

I guess I noticed that my coffee table had nothing on it so I decided to start pulling and cutting some brown scraps to frame these florals I cut a long time ago.

There are scraps everywhere!!
My plan is to spend all day today organizing as much of them as I can.

The good news is that means I will have lots to share with you in the next few weeks :)

*********************************************

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

Receiving scraps is so much fun. Even better it is sprawled all over the place and no one complains. Looking forward to seeing what your prize consists of and what you will make of it. Enjoy! ;^)

I have a couple friends here who give me scraps or unfinished projects. Sometimes it's wonderful and sometimes it's overwhelming. Hope you're having fun with yours! Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!

Sometimes it seems to be raining scraps! I love it! It's so much fun to see them filling up the drawers and boxes, or (even better) going into quilts. I love what you're working on, it looks so modern and colorful.

I have to be in the right mood to sort scraps or I get overwhelmed. My friend, Jan, used to invite me to her house and we would make piles everywhere and get bags sorted. Then we would choose some, bag some by category and give our guild and have dinner. We had a great time doing that. Sadly, Jan died in June 2020 of a heart attack and I have not sorted a big bunch since.

You get such gifts with these passed along scraps. They know what good use you will put them towards. These colourful darks are so pretty and that is going to be a nice big quilt for some lucky person, Cynthia.

Your blocks made of the smallest scraps - an example of a true scrappy quilt. I love your blog because you showcase all the different ways these little treasures can be used. As you can tell, I am a scrappy quilter, too - and love using the smallest of my little treasures (as well as the ugliest!) to make interesting quilts. Thank you for your examples you post so often, which sometimes send me in new directions to use what I have. Since I give away 99% of what I make, I truly appreciate your blog! Deb E

Your scrappy projects are always amazing. I love these improv pieced blocks/panels. I chuckled when reading your post about whether or not it had to be added to your project list. I would probably do the same kind of justification.

If anyone can tame a mountain of scraps, it would be you. Happy playing.

This is a fantastic scrappy project, nice pops of yellow and few of the cheerful red.

Love the way the brown frames those florals and that scrap explosion on your design wall is beautiful! I'm happy to read that you are enjoying playing in the plethora of color!

I like that you are sharing your scrappiness with the whole house. And, bonus to get two free scrappy collections. Pretty soon your main piece will be a top. Then on to all the new scraps becoming tops. Have fun.

Hi Cynthia, don't you love getting new scraps? I just love having new-to-me scraps to use instead of my own. I hope that you get your scraps sorted soon so that you can start playing with them! Take care.
