Rag Quilts

I haven't made a rag quilt in over 20 years.  But when a friend offered me a giant bag of leftover prepped flannel squares for donation quilts, I thought I would make a few.

There were a few squares that were a larger size and consisted of both light and dark prints.

I put almost all the dark prints into one quilt.

It measures 30 x 40".  Kinda small but I used what was there.  I also wanted to keep it masculine, so no floral prints went in this one.

I used up the rest of the larger squares on this one.  It was challenging to get a cohesive design with leftover squares from lots of different projects.

This one is a bit bigger at 48" square.

And finally, I made a third pastel one from sone smaller blocks.  There are lots of fun animal prints on some of the squares.

It measures 34" square.

Rag quilts are super soft and cuddly but I guess I am a more traditional quilter.  They did go together quite quickly because a lot of the work was already done.  A couple movies and I was able to "rag" all the seams.  The dryer did all the rest of the work!

These are being added to the stack for the hospital.  They will probably go to the pediatric care center and hopefully bring a smile to a child needing comfort.

And all the flannel squares are gone!  Woo Hoo!

Sounds like a really cozy way to spend time while enjoying a movie. Hooray for using up all the flannel squares!

I love the look of a rag quilt but have never made one. I have a pattern for a scrappy Christmas tree. Maybe I'll see if I can gather enough scraps that will work together.

Raggy quilts are quick to stitch, but all that snipping can take a toll on your hands.

My friend made rag quilts out of flannel. I couldn't imagine doing all that cutting! Your rag quilts look terrific!
