Oh Scrap! : Clean Up Blocks

Blocks for the Churn Dash block drive are coming in fast and furious right now.  So most of my week was spent making quilt tops, longarm quilting and/or sewing bindings.

It's a good kind of busy!

The only scrappy thing I sewed were some string quilt blocks.

For each of the block drives, I am going to try and come up with a project to use up some of the small scraps created when making the quilts.  For the Rail Fence drive, I made some 16 patch blocks.  I hope to share that finished quilt soon.

For the current Churn Dash block drive, I am finding myself with a lot of thin strings so I think these blocks will be perfect to clean those scraps up.  If I don't end up with enough blocks for a quilt, I will just keep them until next year and finish them when we do this drive again.

The finished string quilt will just become a Compassion quilt!

The blocks I am sewing are 10" square and I am shooting for a 60 x 70" quilt.

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

  • This linky party is for any scrappy project - It can be in-process or a finished piece.
  • You can link up your blog post (not your homepage please) or Instagram photo from the past week that features your use of scraps.
  • If you are linking to a blog post, I ask that you link back to my blog somewhere in your post. So if you are writing about scraps, just get into the habit of including a link as there will be a linky party available every week!
  • If you are using Instagram, please use the hashtag #ohscrap.
  • This is a party so remember to socialize and comment on the posts of others.
  • Following my blog is not necessary but it sure would be great if you do!

Your string blocks are pretty! Could they make a border for a churn dash quilt top? I'll enjoy seeing what you do with them. Putting some blocks in the mail to you tomorrow. Happy Easter, Cyndy!

What a great block to use up those little odds and ends.

I, too, like the idea of string blocks using up all the little bits and pieces. Do you use a foundation or just stitch them together and trim to the right size? Since I still haven't made a top from my last batch of string blocks I think I'll hold off from making more.

Love those string blocks. In my ongoing fabric/yarn room organization I found a large amount of strips in a zippered bag. I spent Friday making string blocks and plan to continue this week. After I finish the dreaded taxes!!
