Oh Scrap! : More BS

I finally found some time to get back to an older project that has been waiting for one last block.



 Here is my final Burgoyne Surround block!  I did have to go buy a fat quarter of the blue fabric.  Everything I had just wasn't quite the right shade.  I even tried to hit a friend's stash but her blues were all wrong too.



Here are all the blocks together.  Now I need to work on the pieced sashing and borders.  If I remember correctly, the blocks finish at 16" so right now this quilt is not that big.  I hope to fix that without making more blocks.

I just hope this project doesn't continue to languish as I think about next steps!

A Scrappy Finish

It is nice to finally see some finishes around here!
They have been few and far between lately....



This scrappy quilt will probably not win any awards in any quilt show but it will have the important job of bringing comfort to a child in a challenging situation.

It measures about 50 x 60 so it is a great size for an older child.



This quilt was made from leftover binding bits and a few orphan blocks.  It was a great project for when I needed some mindless sewing.  (You can read how I make these quilts here.)  While it was tempting at times to want to pull from my stash to make the blocks, I was successful at using only what I had in my 2.5" strip bin.

I can say there even was a nice dent made in my scrap bin!
How often does one get to say that :)

It is a bit hard to see but I used the piecing as markings for the quilting.  
I freehand quilted big "hills" across the quilt.



I had the perfect sized tan piece for the backing.  And a gray solid was used for the binding.

 My goal is to donate about eight quilts to various organizations this year.  This one is already number five so I am well on my way.

Another Something New

After finishing my little Bunny Quilt top, I thought I would continue working on projects that I have held in my head using some of my older stash pieces.



I have had a one yard piece of an old Laurel Burch border fabric languishing in my stash.  It was time to get it cut up and made into a quilt.  I added a bunch of bright colored scraps cut to 2.5" square and set everything next to my machine.



The border fabric required some thinking on my part - I needed to get the best yield I could with some very selective fussy cutting.  And it needed to create the design I had in my head.  I ended up with two different 8" block designs. 

Now I just need to find some time to sew!
Thank goodness the blocks go really fast :)
