Every once in a while, I like to challenge myself with some difficult scraps to see what I can come up with. I don't often feel very confident when I first start the project and wonder if I am going to be able to pull off the idea I have in my head.

I am working on one of these projects now. A friend gave me a lot of leftover pieces of the two florals. One with a light background and one with a black background. The first step I took was to add some various warm browns to the rectangles. That was an easy step and I liked the results.

Now I am add in some scraps in colors I am pulling out of the floral prints. I always get a bit hesitant and doubtful at this stage. But I have been here before and know I just need to trust the process. These blocks are quite large at 12 x 10 so it won't take many to make a nice sized quilt.
I find myself very intrigued by how more blocks will look together, so I am maniacally sewing up more. The colors are challenging so it takes a bit to find just the right scrap.
Time will tell if I have a hit or a miss!

Those florals are pretty! Looks like you've found all kinds of neat bordering fabrics, too. I'm intrigued by the "partial" blocks! I bet they'll make a fun layout. Have a great Sunday, Cyndy!
I find that large florals (and small) just are not in my stash - I rarely buy them and if they are in the stash they were given to me or came in a bundle where other fabric was what had caught my eye.

I love what you're doing with your "challenging scraps," Cynthia! Those border strips really focus your attention on the floral prints, like they are glimpses of a garden seen through a window. I'm looking forward to seeing this progress since I have some large scale Anna Maria Horner floral prints in my own scrap bin that might be used in a similar way. You are definitely the queen of scraps!
Finding just the right fabric to complete each block looks like a puzzle of the very best kind.

Wow! I would have thought that you had planned those blocks. . .those scraps companion perfectly with the floral centers.
