Quick Scrappy Patchwork

I think one of the most challenging task of Many Hands and Many Hearts is keeping up with the scraps that are created making all these quilts.  And I know it is going to be more challenging in the future as we make more quilts.

So, I find myself whipping out quick patchwork quilts.  This week , I went through the RWB scraps and found quite a few prints I could cut into 4.5" squares.

There is no rhyme or reason to how I sewed the squares together.  I quickly quilted it up and moved it to the stack of quilts that need binding.  It seems not possible, but I feel like I need to put together one scrap quilt a week.  That is crazy!

I did send a big box of scraps to Marci - she makes a ton of scrappy string blocks for us.  When we received some blocks back in the mail, it was fun to look through them and recognize our scraps nestled in with some of hers.

Hope all of you are enjoying your weekend!

It is now your turn to share what you are making with scraps.  Here are the details for linking up:

I love scrappy patchwork! It looks like you have some beautiful RWB fabrics to cut from. Someone is going to get lots of comfort from that quilt!

Stars, dots, balloons, hearts and ... watermelons? Your scrap quilt is so cool but I think your goal is unreasonable. A quilt a week sounds like punishment. Think about it this way, if I may add my humble opinion, they didn't get that many quilts before. Whatever they received now is WAY more than what they received before and they were grateful for it. You are not a machine (this is coming from someone who has learned the lesson), be kind to yourself as you are to others. 🥰 Love you. ;^)

Your scrappy squares turned out beautifully. It's fun to search out all the different fabrics. I can't imagine your scrap piles. I'm a one woman operation and it seems like my scraps breed when I'm not looking!

Love your scrappy squares blocks! I co-lead a quilt ministry at church, and we were overwhelmed with our scraps. I feel like we finally have a good plan to work through them. We had a lot that was given to us, as well as from the quilts we make. We had it all stuffed in boxes, and they just weren't being used. A few months ago, I was inspired by the quilts I was seeing online because of the monthly rainbow scrap challenge so we pulled out all the boxes and sorted everything by color and started cutting jelly roll kits from the color that is called each month. If the scrap is large enough, we cut fat quarters, and they are sorted by color. We've found a lot of free patterns to use the fat quarters and jelly rolls. Anything smaller than jelly roll width goes in the string quilts that some of the ladies make.

Pam's idea above is wonderful. I love your quilt in progress Cynthia. Simple is always a beautiful quilt. I have to say, your patriotic fabric stash is quilt beautiful!! I hope you have loads of fun completing this one! As for doing one quilt a week, you are quite ambitious. I would never discourage you. However, pace yourself and be careful not to burn out. FYI, I'm hoping to send you a small package later this week.

Your 4.5" squares shows how easy it is to create a cool quilt. (Ok, easy for the design part not getting it sewn together, quilted and bound!). It looks great.

I think scrappy quilts are the best. The colors are so bright and beautiful. One quilt a week!! I don't know how you did it, you are quite a quilter!

I need to get back to sewing every month. I've rarely been sewing this year. But I did get a little wall quilt quilted by hand and is now hung in the living room in time for the 4th of July. It is Scrappy Little Flags, but do not recall what blogger had this on her blog... was it spring last year or the year before?

Maybe a scrap management sub-committee whose contribution to the organization is taking the scraps and producing tops of designated sizes? You could still have your own personal projects with scraps but it might not feel so overwhelming.
