Blogger's Quilt Festival - Fall 2018 Second Entry

For my second entry into Amy Ellis' Blogger's Quilt Festival, I have a brand new finish to share!

This quilt is called Summertime Blossoms.

I recently revisited a quilt design I had published in Easy Quilts back in 2015.  I called that quilt Nighttime Blossoms.

This quilt uses 8 fat quarters and I knew I wanted to make a new quilt using a bundle of Bonnie and Camille's Miss Kate collection I have been hoarding for years.  Some Kona Lime worked perfectly for the background.

It is a quick and easy block to make and I love that there are not a lot of seams to match.

Here are both the Nighttime and Summertime Blossoms quilts together.
Lighting has been so difficult this time of year to get any good pictures.

I even took this quilt out in the wild to try and get some good pictures.  The sun and shadows just never worked my way!

If you want to make your own quilt, I do have this pattern now for sale in both my Payhip and Etsy pattern shop. It is a great way to use up those fat quarters you have been hiding in your stash!

And don't forget to head to Amy's Creative Side to see all the other lovely quilts linked up for this year's festival.  There is so much inspiration to be found there!

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Fall 2018 First Entry

I have been participating in the Blogger's Quilt Festival since 2013.  It is an event I look forward to every year.  I love to see all of the beautiful entries that are linked up and discover exciting new blogs to follow.

My first entry this Fall  is a fairly recent finish.  My regular readers know I love scraps.  I also love to use my scraps to play with color and create visual effects.  So when I saw Linda post about a block she was making playing with color value, I began wondering how much contrast you really need to visually see a shape.  This quilt became an obsession with me!

The blocks were fairly simple to assemble.  Just HSTs and squares at 2.5" so the block measures 8".  It became all about fabric placement.

I used a bag scraps given to me by a friend for this entire quilt.  I really enjoyed finding the right home for each bit of fabric.

I also incorporated some neutral solids in the background by floating them amidst the low volume background.

Some partial diamonds were placed around the edge to create a unique border.

I don't often allow myself to "just play" in my sewing room.  I always have a goal I want to meet and I usually only work on the projects that I have a clear direction on.  This quilt definitely reminded me that I learn more by deliberately moving through each step and analyzing how each fabric affects the whole quilt.  There will be many more projects like this one in the future!

If this is the first time you have visited my blog, I hope you will come back again.  Every Sunday I host a great linkup for other bloggers to share their scrappy projects.  There is lots of inspiration shared every week.

And I am always trying to share my process and lots of ways to use the fabric you have on hand.
I have far more ideas than I do time!

A giant thanks to Amy over at Amy's Creative Side for hosting this event.  I hope you take the time to head over and check out all the entries!

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Improv Stripes

Every Fall, Amy Ellis hosts the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  Lots of blogger's link up their favorite recent finishes - so it makes for a great place to find inspiration and new blogs to follow.

I always look forward to this event.
It really is amazing to see all of the lovely finishes that get shared!

I thought I would share the #improvstripes quilt I made following Debbie's (A Quilter's Table) quilt along.  I wasn't sold on the quilt when I first started out, but now that it is finished, it is one of my favorite quilts.

I restricted myself to bright blues, red and a bit of bright yellow.  Love those primary colors!  I paired those with black, whites and a few bits of gray.

For the quilting, I used a black thread and quilted squares/lines all going in different directions.
Improv geometric quilting!

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Bunny Quilt

Twice a year, Amy Ellis hosts the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  It is an event I always look forward to because it gives me an opportunity to explore new bloggers who are sharing some of their favorite recent finishes.

It is a digital quilt show!

You are allowed to link up two quilts so I thought for my first quilt, I would share my Bunny quilt I made last May.  It is a really large throw and my go-to quilt when I am feeling blue.

A big pink bunny really cheers you up!

All of the fabrics were in my stash.  Almost all of the squares are 2.5" but I did use some 4.5" squares that I already had cut.  I like how they break up the pattern a bit.

I even had two larger cuts of some pink fabrics tucked away that worked perfectly for the backing.  I didn't want the two prints touching so I added in a navy print to break them up.

One of my quilting customers was nice enough to be a quilt holder for me.

It is silly and whimsical - Who wouldn't want a pink bunny quilt!

Dumbstruck!

I want to thank all of you who nominated me for the Viewer's Choice Award over on the Blogger's Quilt Festival at Amy's Creative Side.  It was such a wonderful surprise!  I clicked through on another blogger who was also nominated and was so shocked to see my tumbler quilt on the list!

It is truly such an honor.  I am walking on clouds!

If you missed it, I entered this quilt in the Scrappy division.  Here is the link to that category if you would like to see the other entries.

It is time now to vote for your favorites.  To see all of the Viewer Choice quilts, just follow this link.  You get three votes - which is good because it is hard to pick a favorite.  In fact, many of my friends also have a quilt nominated so voting was a challenge!

There are some stunning quilts in all of the categories.  So hop over and vote, spend some time looking through all the blogs and find some new friends.  And of course, enjoy all the quilty inspiration!

...And truly, Thank You!

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Scrappy Quilt

For my second quilt entry into the Fall Blogger's Quilt Festival, I was hoping to be able to share my finished Red, Black and White Tumbler quilt.  But sadly, it is not ready to be revealed yet so you will have to just enjoy seeing the colorwash one I finished up a few months ago.

I started by cutting a bunch of my scraps into a 3.5" tumbler shape.  I wanted to play with points of light in a colorwash scrap quilt.  I had never sewn with tumblers before and I have to say, they are now a favorite of mine!

Here is the finished quilt.  I worked mainly in green, blues and purples - grouping all the lights into one single area.

When viewed up close, you can see I used all sorts of scraps.  It was a great exercise to see how different fabrics would change depending on where they were placed in the quilt.

I had a lot of fun with the quilting too.
I did change the color of thread depending on where I was quilting.

And some old stash fabric was used on the backing.  I love quilts made from scraps!

This one is being entered in the Scrappy Quilt category.  If this is your first visit, I love to share lots of ideas for using scraps on my Scrap-A-Palooza page.  You will find all sorts of inspiration there!

I have also entered my Bamboo Shoots quilt in the Original Design category.  I can't wait to find some time with a cup of tea and my tablet to just look at all the eye candy out there!

The event will run September 19th through September 31st.  Check out AmysCreativeSide to view all the beautiful quilts linked up. There are lots of categories filled with inspiration!

Blogger's Quilt Festival - Original Design

Hurray!  With the arrival of fall comes the Blogger's Quilt Festival.  I love this event - especially when it takes place in blogland and not Instagram.  I really enjoy reading the stories about so many amazing quilts all made by very talented quilters. During the event, I always find new blogs to follow and meet some amazing new friends!

Welcome to all of you visiting and I am so happy to be participating again this year!

I decided to include my newest pattern - Bamboo Shoots - in the Original Design category.   This quilt was made using Robert Kaufman's Quilter's Linen in three different colors.
I really liked the fresh green with the tan and the brown.

Before I released the pattern, I did a pattern test using some Kaffe Fassett prints with a rich eggplant background. This one is a more colorful version of a great design - perfect for a beginner or seasoned quilter.

I will be entering another quilt in the scrappy category (of course).  It is the last Scrap-A-Palooza quilt I made using the tumbler shape.  Remember, links to all of my Scrap-A-Palooza quilts are always available if you are looking for inspiration  for using those scraps!

The event will run September 19th through September 31st.  Check out AmysCreativeSide to view all the beautiful quilts linked up. There are lots of categories filled with inspiration!
