Catch a Falling Star - Stash Statement

Hurray!  It is finally my day to share a quilt I made using Kelly's (from My Quilt Infatuation) Stash Statement book.  Because my date is so close to the first day of Summer and the 4th of July, I chose to make the quilt "Catch a Falling Star!"  I thought it would make the perfect picnic quilt.

So of course I chose red white and blues for my colors.  

The book does a great job explaining the beginning improv technique that is required to make the slabs.  Even if you don't have the (extensive) scraps like I have, Kelly also discusses how to cut pieces from your stash.

The star blocks are filled with scrappy goodness too!

 I even pulled fabric chunks out of my scraps for the red, gray and white stars that sparkle across the quilt.  For the quilting, I went with loops and stars to keep with the theme.  I had no problem choosing a backing from my stash but I pondered the binding for a bit.  I finally went with a red and black stripe so the quilt is framed up nicely.

It was a fun quilt to sew and not intimidating at all!

Oh Scrap! : RSC 2019

Yes, you read that title correctly, I am already ready to  start my blocks for my 2019 Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.

I always seem to finish/start my next quilts earlier each year.  I have my ladder block quilt top ready to quilt soon and my bow-tie quilt blocks are all finished and just need to be laid out.

First up is a simple zigzag block made from 2.5" wide scraps.  In teal of course for June!

I plan on donating this quilt so I think I will make a total of 20 blocks.  Simple and quick!

While making some nine patches for another project, I discovered I got a little crazy cutting out pieces and ended up with a whole bunch of extra cuties (These are just a few of them).

I decided to put them to good use with some teal strings and made these quarter log blocks.  They finish at 10" and I think will be perfect for a scrap project.

I also received a bag of scraps and orphan blocks from a friend.  After spending a good couple hours sorting, petting, and pairing up bits, I now have at least 4 more quilts in the works.  

My creative juices are boiling over!

Bunnies Run Amok

In a scrap bag from a friend, I found a couple of leftover strips from some bunny fabric she used in an Easter quilt.  I am not sure how old it is or even who manufactured the fabric.  I have been thinking about those bits of fabric and what I was going to do with it for years.

I recently decided to get it out and add some of my coveted veggie fabric.

And so this little bunny quilt was created!

This quilt was a bugger to photograph.  The bright sunlight kept reflecting back off the Shadow gray and the white bunnies.  So I gave up and settled for these photos in the shade.

My sister is always telling me stories of bunnies eating all of her garden.  I don't have bunnies but the squirrels, racoons and possums keep me on my toes.  But they are not nearly as cute!

If you look closely, you can see the clumps of grass I did for the quilting.

This quilt sold even before I finished it (yay!)  So the buyer got to choose her backing from my stash.

I thought these watermelons were a fun choice!
