Oh Scrap! : More Blue Blocks

I still have a few more blue Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks to share this month.

I made four more garlic knot blocks using blue, black/white, and taupe.  I have to admit that these are my current favorite block on my design walls.

Here are the two colors together that I have completed so far.

Oh, but look what can happen with a few rotations!

This is simply just a happy accident - it wasn't intentional.  But I have learned when designing a block, when you create a "pattern" of fabric/color within a block, it can open up lots of pattern options in the quilt layout.

And while I had the blue bin out, I decided to make a few Geese Migration blocks in preparation for some upcoming classes.  I will be at a Scrap Retreat in Eugene Oregon and teaching at the Stitchin' Post in Sisters Oregon.  Last I checked, there were still a few openings in all of them.

Another Workshop Opportunity

Starting this Fall, I am going to be teaching classes at the Stitchin' Post in Sisters Oregon.

I am really excited about it!

I will be teaching my Spin! quilt September 16th 2019.

A fun variation to a Log Cabin block, this class is perfect for beginning or seasoned quilters. You'll learn to sew this uniquely curved Log Cabin quilt without sewing any curves. You'll easily incorporate some scraps from your stash in this project!

A Geese Migration workshop is scheduled for October 10th 2019.

Geese Migration is not your ordinary scrap quilt. In this class, you'll learn to use small pieces to create a lovely colorwash effect. You'll build confidence in color and fabric usage as you incorporate a variety of selections in exciting new ways. 

Both of these classes are my most popular and I am so happy I can offer them publicly.  Most of the time, these workshops are only offered through quilt guilds to their members.

When Traveling...

I recently went to the beautiful Sun Valley Idaho area to teach my Geese Migration quilt and present a quilt show.  I was invited by the 5Bee Quilt Guild and had a wonderful time.  I even met some fellow bloggers - Barb at Mountain Quiltworks and Janice at Color, Creating and Quilting. 

Both are sweet at pie!

And in between events, what to do except check out the sites and visit the local quilt store.

Luckily I had a bit of room in my luggage for these lovelies I just had to bring home.  I bought some rather large cuts of these cross weaves.  The top is a lovely blue/purple by Moda and the bottom two are by Robert Kaufman.

 I also found this black and white print that I have been wanting for a project in my head.  And lucky me, it was on sale.  The plaid I just needed because it was pretty!

So hopefully now I am done buying fabrics for a bit.

But summer travels could have me visiting new to me quilt stores :)

Oh Scrap! : A Day with Scraps

Last Saturday I had the pleasure of teaching my Geese Migration quilt to the Emerald Valley Quilters.
Oh what fun we had!

I love to see a table full of scraps!

In no time at all, beautiful blocks were getting finished.  It was so rewarding to see other quilters applying some of my tricks and tips for using scraps to their blocks.  I wanted to steal them all!

Oh Scrap! : I am on Scrap Control

My scrap bins over-floweth!

With the end of the year looming, I have been focused on finishing as many projects as I can. Once I finish a project, all the bits in the project box get put away. 

Which means handfuls of scraps are stuffed into my color bins!

So this holiday weekend, I have been sorting, pressing and cutting up a bunch of scraps with my AccuQuilt fabric cutter.

 I store my 2.5" squares in silverware trays sorted by color.  I am mostly focused on cutting up the odd shaped and older scraps.  I am teaching my Geese Migration quilt to a number of guilds starting in January - so having a bunch of pre-cut squares to share is always nice.

The greens are done, now it is on to the blues!

Want to take a class from me?  I would love to teach my Geese Migration quilt to your local quilt store, guild or sewing group.  Right now, I am focusing on just teaching in the PNW but it never hurts to check with me if there is an interest in your area.  You will look at scraps in a whole new way!
